Small speakers for Nap 300
Posted by: Bob the Builder on 29 October 2017
I'm looking at trying a small stand mounted speaker with my 300 this is only a bit of an experiment and so I would be looking to buy used. I have seen that PMC 21, 23, Proac Signature 8 reference and some of the small ATC's can be had used for not too much money and at prices that could be sold for not much loss if the experiment fails.
So any advice from anyone who has tried small speakers with Naps 200, 250 or 300 would be great.

I am currently building a hot pair of Linn Kans ....... using a super braced and damped cabinet.....when this is done I will fee back.....
I've got a new set of PMC25.23s on the end of a Nova in a 3.5m * 4.3m room, they sound great. The 25.23s are new product and not showing up second hand yet (that I've noticed), the predecessor 20.23s look like they'd fit into your pricepoint, might be worth thinking about as small elegant floorstanders.
I also rather like my Twenty5.23; and they are, in my view, not terribly fuzzy about positioning. I like PMC's front-ported technology. I remember Feeling Zen (who sadly said Good Bye to the Forum) used both 20.23 and 25.23; and according to his experience, the older model is even easier on positioning. I suspect there are good deals out there if one wants to go down the 20.23 route -- but maybe not quite within a budget of 1K (second-hand). Having said this, Fanthorpes still has a pair of new 20.23 (black) for 1.6K (and there might some room to negotiate). So maybe one can have them second-hand within budget.
Hopefully I will be able to borrow a pair of Royd Edens and ATC 11's in the next few weeks which I'm very much looking forward to trying out. Lots of really good suggestions PMC's, Neat Iota's, Proac signature reference 8's and of course ATC's and small Dynaudios all are possible.
As the 300 can successfully drive almost anything, I think a more pertinent question to ask is "What small speakers will be a good acoustic match your room?".

You don't keep a unicorn as a pet, the unicorn keeps you as a pet!
Dutch Design - however its not solely a pet, but also a toy:
I have today purchased a set of Royd Edens for £100 so that I may get some idea what the 300 can do with small quality stand mounted speakers. I've also just purchased a a Benz Micro Ace SL for my LP12/Ittok so looking forward to a bit of old school analogue sound LP12 >> 282 >> 300 >> Royd Edens if I like what they do then I will be looking at investing in one of the speakers mentioned above or perhaps a very small floortstander.

I listen to the small GURU QM10-Two with my NAP200. Great soundstage, very transparent, very musical. Highly recommended!

I had QM10's on a 200 and loved them but my dear partner blew them up playing Fairytale of New York last Christmas bless her!

Something looks wrong with the pic. Are the speakers pointing up at the listener? And what is between the speaker and stand?
I'm troubled because I've always thought the 'small' Sopras looked handsome.
Bob, I've not heard you naysay the WB Arcs yet and I notice I'm not alone with my suggestion of them....
IIRC they have isobaric do-dahs so they are chuff tight in the fulsome bass dept.
you are not alone, for me the wilson benesh are among the best choices. For the photo here, between the speakers and the stand : iso acoustics support
I also agree, the WB Arcs are superb, I used to run them with a 552/300.
IIRC there’s a pair available at a “well known dealer in the Leicester area” at a bargain price.

I believe they work well with the WB Torus - if I had to have a small system I'd like to hear that combination,
