102 Logo not Lighting Up with Napsc2

Posted by: mikeybaby on 31 October 2017

Is my logo faulty or does the 102 require the original napsc? Thanks.

A NAPSC 2 should be fine.  Does it light up with the paddle link plug in place and no NAPSC?

No.

I am surprised because two days ago the logo was very bright and looked healthy.

When you said ‘no’ above, can I take it that you were trying it with the 102 powered from a power supply or power amp, and with the appropriate link plugs inserted?

Yes HH that is correct. I took my Hicap for servicing and tested the pre with only the napsc with and without the plugs only to find

the logo not lighting up.

I wonder if the napsc’s fuse has gone. Is its little light coming on? I’m sure you’d have noticed if it wasn’t. And I guess you’ve triple checked that you are using the right link plugs. It’s a long time since I had a 102, but have you tied it without the napsc and powered from your power amp via the snaic 4, and with both links in place?

Mike - what power amp were you using ?

Amp is Nap CB250...Please note also the inputs light up on the 102 but not the naimaudio logo. I will check when I get my amp and Cap back. The napsc works fine and lights up my 82's logo but when I substitute the 102, the logo and inputs light up but not the logo....problem must be the 102  logo burnt out. Thanks guys.

Sorry I botched that...when I substitute the 102 for the 82 the inputs light up but NOT the logo.

Mikeybaby, it's so long ago I can't actually recall whether the logo does light up if only the NAPSC is connected - i.e. the pre-amp itself is unpowered.  Best way to check is to power up the pre-amp itself as well as the logic and control circuits.  You'll need a suitable power amp (and link plug) or dedicated power supply for that.  Can you do that?

Ah that explains a bit more. I'd wait until you get the Hicap back to confirm if the logo is a problem. As Richard says, you may need the additional 24v supply (from Hicap or suitable Power amp) to get the logo to light rather than just needing the NAPSC. I suspect that this is the case rather than a broken logo backlight.

Mikey, the 102 logo will light up only with a power supply connected. The input selectors light up only with the Napsc connected.

Got it! I was pretty sure the logo wouldnt just die. Naim is idestructible.

Phew

Update. Hicap is back and yes CAT345 you are correct..it needs to be connected to light up the logo.  The napsc only powers the inputs.
