pmc fact 8

Anybody using the fact 8 I would like to know what they are like and are they worth getting.
Yes, using Fact 8’s on end of 272/XPS DR/200. Works well. Had them for probably 5 or 6 years. As I have suspended floors I found that using ‘machine feet’ and cork discs in place of the supplied spikes made a massive difference to the sound and improved the base performance. I have the rear cross over settings flat on both treble and base.
I did try the them on end of Nait XS-2 when 200 was off for and service and didn’t think the nait really did the job compaired to the 200.
personally, I think for my room/ system they will be staying for a very long time.
I moved from SL2’s to Fact 8’s and post a short demo it was no contest and the SL2’s had to go. Don’t get me wrong the SL2’s did somethings amazingly well but the fact 8’s were just better all round in my room plus no more faffing with tweeter alignment with the SL2’s.
My fact 8’s are powered by a 300DR and they have a lovely delicate sound and do bass very nicely.
Both main dealers in my area stock them which suggests they rate them too.
There’s plenty of choice in the fact 8 price bracket so take your time and use a good dealer as home demo is a prerequisite to making the right choice.

Gary
yes thanks for reply I will be using the supernait 2 Hicap dr xps 2 with the fact 8 for a while until I add the nap250
Hi Johnny
With so little information about your source, room, musical tastes, it's hard to make recommendations. I run Fact 3s (same drivers, smaller cabinet) with a 272/XPS/250 and am very happy with the sound in my smallish (4x6m) room. Some think the Fact range is too dry, but I find many speakers have too much bass for my taste. However, that could be a reflection of my preference for quality vs quantity in bass reproduction and the fact that I listen entirely to acoustic music, much of it classical. The variation in taste in speakers was brought home to me recently when I had an extensive audition of ATC SCM19s in active vs passive (with 250DR) versions. I preferred the active speakers by some margin but another listener to the same set of tracks I had chosen strongly favoured the passive ones. To me that shows that auditioning and trusting your ears is vital. So I guess what I'm saying is that the Fact series is excellent to my ears but might not be to yours. At least, I would not spend significant money on a speaker without an extended demo, preferably at home.
However, I also wonder if you are going about things in the right order. If you can afford Fact 8s and intend to add a 250 at some stage, why not do this first? (I presume you currently have speakers.) The problem I anticipate is that you might get the Facts and then change the amp to, say a 282/250 setup only to find that you now find the sound too dry and find yourself on the lookout for new speakers again. Many on this forum would advocate "getting the electronics sorted first". Others wouldn't so ultimately it's up to you. Good luck.

Thanks for reply I will be buying the fact 8 used but if I need I will add the nap 250 later if I feel I need to, I do have tewnty5 23 but not deep enough for me, but space I have 12 feet wide 34 feet length.
I used Fact 3 with a Superunit with and without an additional NAP250 to great effect.
Yes the new supernait 2 is a brilliant amp even better with hicap dr and not a bad preamp for nap250
The Facts are a great fast speaker. I have the fact 3 with 252 250. Mile in front of a GB1 which i had before
Very neutral . Would look at a 250 to give them grip and some grunt
Hi Johnny
I used a CB250 with my SN2 and I felt it made a subtle and worthwhile improvement to the sound. A 250DR would be worthwhile if you can afford it and also be ready for a separate pre-amp or 272 if you want to progress further
Do you think the 25 23s would be ok in a smallish room - 3.5m x 4.0m? Can they be placed reasonably close to the back and side walls. I have been thinking of buying a pair but need to audition them first. I have seen one or two ex-dem pairs for sale that could be a tempting prospect

Hi yes I have mine in similar size and they are astounding and yes about 12 inches from back wall side wall in around 17 inches side wall. Only reason I want to change is my room opened out to a 34 feet space and the 5.5 drive does suit the width better.

You might try a set of IsoAcoustics feet. Some dealers have demo sets available.
For the OP, I'm not sure FACT 8 is going to fill your large room. They have tightly controlled bass which is great but it could be over tight. Home listen will be essential. A 250DR is likely to add some depth. I've heard FACT 8s a number of times and only once thought they got beyond the dryness and had some boogie factor. That was at Indulgence this year with a 12k AVM all in one, so I suspect they need some high quality electronics to shine and the SN might not be enough.
Have you experimented with positioning of your existing speakers?
Also consider a Twenty series sub woofer
Thanks I do not want to go too big I did demo the 25/24 at home and they where not great to much over bass but I know I will need nap250 if I use the fact but I can not demo because no dealer for fact in eire.which is why I am asking for opinions.

I've recently added a second system, Nova driving 25.23s in a 3.5m X 4.3m room. I'd say they're pretty much perfect for the room, I have them about 30" from the wall firing down the longer side. After a couple of weeks of running in, they're playing well at low and high volume levels, fill the room well and look lovely.
That's helpful was I am now using a Nova with a 250DR and am looking for a pair of speakers to replace my long serving Naim n-Sats - great little speakers but a bit light on bass
pmc 25/23 are great just on to a hifi retailer and they reckon upgrade to the nap 250 dr first because the 25/23 are a very good sounding speaker and will sound much better with nap250dr even with sn2 as preamp before any speaker change.
so I will take this advise and go nap250 dr first.
My Nova is combined with nap250dr into PMC 25.26, sounds really good to me.Spoke with the PMC guys at Audio Show East, they seem to be doing really well with large backorders on most of the 25.xx range.
yes I agree they are a good range the 25/23 are very detailed I just feel the fact will bring depth the 25/26 would be to big but they are amazing too.
My Fact 3 with Superuniti/NAP250 we’re in a 2.5m square room. Certainly not overwhelming and of course the Fact has bass and treble adjustment.
I’ve just replaced Neat Iota Alphas with PMC fact.8’s. As good as the Alphas are the PMC are in a different class.

One obvious possibility there is to add nSub
