Rack Placement Order

Posted by: Mort2k on 01 November 2017

Hello

So thanks to everyone's input in my other thread.  we spent a good few hours looking at all the options for Racks and a mutual decision has lead to Fraim ! Non more surprised than myself. I have a good search but could not find and recent matches to my setup.

For Now its 6 boxes and they are on my existing Rack as such:

52

ND5

XPSDR

SuperCap

135

135

All the wonderful people with fraim building experience, whats the best order for sound and cable dressing? This will be a single stack.

Future plans see NDS and maybe 300 - doubt the 52 will change for a good while.

Thanks

Rob

My rack order is 272 on top then 555PS,300PS,300 head unit. Will it make a difference if I switch to both power supplies on the bottom?

Try the 300PS on bottom shelf and 300 Head above - swap them.

You should find it clearer and a bit faster with better bass, but try to see, as you can always revert.

The 300PS is a noisy box that benefits the other boxes being farther away and I find the 300PS (and 500PS) quite like the bottom shelf, whereas the 300 Head (or 500 Head) like to be off the bottom shelf.

As to moving the 300 Head another level up and placing the 555PS under it - it may work and sound even better, but I'd try the above first to get a reference then after a few days try the other way and decide which you prefer. It is a mix as the 272 will benefit from 555PS more away, but 555PS is the supply for your source and won't like being next to 300PS, so you have some better some worse and it needs audition to see if better.

Thanks for the input. The new order sounds great and helped with cables dressing.

Mine's pretty similar to this. All on Quadraspire SVT with bronze spikes for top level - LHS top to bottom is NDS, 52PS, 555DR, 135, 135. RHS top to bottom is LP12, Nac 52, Nak cassette desk, Lingo 1.

Switched the new NDS to top level and dropped the Nac 52 down onto a standard shelf. Did make a difference to the bass and its detail. I've also have longer SVT legs to increase gap between shelves. Length of Prefix cable limits distance between LP12 and Nac-52. Apart from shifting 555 to bottom shelf maybe, happy with things now. Having the LP12 on the shorter RHS rack also helps visually with the height difference between the two racks.
