Ortofon Quintet Blue. Stageline S?

Hi.

If I go for a stageline with an Otofon Quintet Blue it would need to be the Stageline S?

Pretty certain you will. The S version tends to be for all non Linn cartridges, which generally use K boards for optimisation. A friend of mine is using the Orofon Blue to good effect on his turntable with S cards in his 82.

The Otofon Quintet Blue  requirs a load impedance of >20 ohm. The SL S has 470 ohm input load and that makes it in my opinion too far off the recommended value by Ortofon. But it will work of course but not sure if it will sound optimal.

Why not go for a Ortofon 2M bronze/black mm with SL N?

The ortofon MCs generally work fine with either S or K. Ideally they like a load of around 100 to 200 ohms though but it's a small difference really. You need to move up to something very resolving like the Superline for it to become more critical.

if you already have a moving-magnet phono stage, i recommend that you try an Ortofon step-up transformer. the ST-7 seems like the ticket -- it's designed for the Quintet cartridges.

Thanks.

Good to know.

My current phono is only the very basic one from Pro-ject.

I already have the cartridge.
