Moving Magnet phono stage for NAC 42.5

Posted by: Stephen E on 07 November 2017

Hi, I just took ownership of a NAC42.5 with no phono cards installed. Using it with a NAP 140/SNAPS and an Ariston RD11/SME 3009/Goldring 1012 GX

Looks like the original 322 MM cards are nigh on impossible to get hold of these days (unless anyone can suggest a likely supplier) so I am looking for an external phono stage ...can anyone suggest what would be a good match in line with rest of the system? Looking to pay less than £250 - I dont mind second hand obviously!

All suggestions appreciated.

thanks.

Stephen, there are usually some NA322 boards out there - check around some of the usual Naim dealers who specialise in secondhand kit, otherwise a quick online search in the usual places and you should come up trumps fairly quickly. Look for the latest you can - NA322/4 were the last series.

I would go for an external stage the Rega Fono MM Mk2 is an excellent phono stage and now the Mk3 is out I would think you could get one used for half you budget.

Yes, a lot of relatively cheap phono stages that better the internal boards imo. The usual classifieds should find you one in no time...
