How to remove audio files from Unitiserve 2TB.
Posted by: Cat_1965 on 09 November 2017
Having binned a Unitiserve SSD for a 2TB version I would like to know how to remove existing music files that the previous owner had stored. I'm using Windows 10 to control the Unitiserve, some files I can remove and others I can't. Would be very grateful for some help with this, please keep it simple, as not being a computer geek I may struggle with the solutions, thanks.

If you have CD rips in a folder names Music > MQ do not use a computer to navigate to the files and delete or edit them. Use the desktop client (PC) or N-Serve (Mac) to do this. Any music in the downloads folder cannot be managed in this way, and should be deleted by the former method.

I can't navigate without the aid of a computer and I don't have the N-serve app, I have a naim app on android and that is as much use as a chocolate fire guard, doesn't recognize the Unitiserve. The files I have are in various folders and I'm not sure what MQ means in the context of music files, the ones I have are albums, artists.

Best way to deal with this is by installing the Naim Desktop Client on a PC or Mac, ik believe this program is part of the download package here:

Thank you for that, I shall try that tomorrow and post my findings.

As a PC user, you can use the desktop client, or, possibly easier, type the Unitiserve’s IP address into any browser, which will take you to the ‘browser interface.’ Here you will find the option to delete music. Do you have a copy of the manual? This is all explained in detail there, you can download it from the Naim website.

Just to summarise:
the management of UnitiServe and its content can and should only be done with the dedicated desktop client or with an nServe app for iOS.
The PC version of the desktop application is the most complete of them all.
Although removal of files, rips, renaming and retaging can be done in all 3 variants.

As Adam says n-serve for IOS not the Naim app for IOS and the Naim app for Android isn't intended to be n-serve for Android, so no it won't see your US.
Or it's n-serve for Mac or Windows DTC for windows PC.
The MQ folder inside the Music folder of the US is where the US puts CDs that it rips.

And mp3 if any goes into the lq folder, but you cannot edit or delete files in these folders from a pc or mac, you will get a form of access denied message. Unless the previous owner also had the 2 tb version, and has placed music in the new downloads folder, there are no files on the uServe you can change or delete without DTC or N-serve.

I've managed to delete some files using the desk top client but can't delete mp4 files.

mp4 files there are they? Sounds like files uploaded to the unit not ripped.
