Naim HDX does not "see" NAS

Posted by: Lars Isac on 15 November 2017

Hi,

My HDX does not see the QNAP NAS that is on the same network. It does not come up as a "share" although I have tried many times to refresh. My 272 "saw" it immediately though. The NAS is connected to the same swith as the 272 and I have tried having the HDX (which the 272 "sees") on the same switch or straight into the router.

What magic do I have to bring to the network to make the HDX see the NAS and be able to rip to it?

Anyone?

What is recognized in the list of available shares? Are there any kind of user rights restrictions on the nas. It is adviced that the workgroup name is the same on the hdx and the nas. I am not sure it is necessary but worth trying to call the workgroup naim. And do you have any firewall blocking access to devices on the network.

Are you using the dtc to try and set this up or the touch interface on the hdx.

The first thing I’d try is a full network restart just in case there’s something like an IP address issue. Turn off everything on your network, then restart one item at a time, starting with the router. Preferably with everything on DHCP and no reserved IP addresses.

I had to check some V (authentication, etc.) in my Synology NAS configuration (web) and then the Uniti Core could find it.
Might be the same here.

Had this issue on a customer's 2TB HDX recently to allow a QNAP share to become the backup drive.

Resolved the matter by first ensuring the QNAP share has full guest access. Then manually added the share to the HDX, entering the NAS host name and path in this format \\NAShostname\NASshare and the QNAP share promptly appeared in the Share list. Moved to Backup and set backup process on its way. All worked perfectly since.

Also worth allocating the QNAP with a specific IP address either allocating it in the NAS &/or router.

Hope this helps.

Hello Tony,

Thank you. I am not sure what path I should enter in the HDX. Where do I find it? As you may notice, I am a complete novice when it comes to networks...
