Frank Abela
Posted by: jon h on 17 November 2017
just a short note to say I have just read on Facebook that frank is deeply unwell with a brain tumour. His wife Judith posted the news overnight and it has come as a complete shock to many, myself included.
A serious Naim user and, I believe, dealer for the company in Malta?
im sure you will join me in sending him our best wishes and thoughts.
Innocent Bystander posted:Jon, many nice things have been said in this thread, and it would be a pity if Frank's family and Frank himself don't get to read them.
It sounds as if you have direct contact with his wife - can I suggest suggesting to his wife that she obtain from Frank if possible his log-in details and log in, to show him and read herself. Should this be too late for that, perhaps Naim could arrange for her to have access enabled.
I never knew Frank, and my knowledge of him through the forum was limited, but clearly he is held in the highest regard by many on here.
Hi All,
I’m wondering would anyone mind if I copied this post and send it to Frank’s wife Judith?
Im in contact via messenger.
Regards
Richard

As the author of that particular post, absolutely of course not - as for the whole thread, whilst I imagine everyone would be happy for that, can I suggest checking with [@mention:1566878603942595]
It's a publicly viewable forum so unless anybody has any particular issue with such a proposal then I can't see a problem.

Thanks Richard.
ill send it over.
Did not know Frank personal but as many have already said he is a much valued friend of this forum .
My prayers are with Frank and his family at what must be a very difficult time.
Graham.
I'm so sorry to hear the news. Once he commented on my system setup when I started with Naim few years ago, and from there I have changed what I have in my system now. It's always source first and thank you Frank!!
My prayers are with Frank and his family.
Nasa.
A message just now from Jude on facebook via messenger:
"Hi Jon... Thanks so much for the post on the forum.... Very overwhelming but I will read them all out to Frank bit by bit when he is awake. I'm unable to reply directly at the moment as I don't have Frank's login details but will try on the computer this evening when I get home. Please pass on our sincere thanks to everyone for their messages.....means a lot to us both. I only wish that Frank could have seen the shop open but the building work was completed the day after he was admitted to hospital in September. Unfortunately the seizures left him partially paralysed and too weak to be moved other than by ambulance so I wasn't able to take him to see it. Someone mentioned a way to contact us other than Facebook.... Happy for emails to info@grapevineaudio.com
I've sent the same message to Rich as well as I couldn't find you at first
Thanks again, Jude xx"
All my best hopes and best wishes to Frank and his family in this difficult times

Thanks again Jon for the update - great to hear that the community's messages will be passed on to Frank which I hope will be of some support to him and Jude. That's a terribly cruel twist Frank not being able to at least see the shop he had been dreaming about for goodness only knows how many years.

It’s strange on fora how you get to “know” people. Frank was always so generous with his advice and shared his great knowledge but never in a pompous or didactic way. From what I could tell a true gent.
Remembering you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Very sad news. Frank always helpful and kind person judging from his participation in this forum. It is very pity that "health" system does not offer people all the therapeutic options available in such difficult situations. Few guys did it (see Pablo Kelly's published story) but its very difficult if there is no professional support...
Like so many others here, have enjoyed reading Frank’s contributions to this forum for many years, and was very saddened by this news of his illness.
My wish for Frank’s family and his close friends is the strength and stanima needed to deal with very strong emotions. My wish for Frank is to be comfortable and free of pain.
I know Frank only through his posts, at this site and others, which are always thoughtful, helpful and well meaning. The kind of guy you hope would set up a shop in your town.
All the best Frank, we're praying for you brother.
I have nothing to prey to but my best wishes to you Frank.
I miss talking with you when I drop into the shop on a Saturday.

Frank sold me my first Naim CD player which turn out to be the thin end of a lot of wedge.
Keep fighting Frank.
Every time I see the name Frank Abela I instantly think of naim audio.
Get well soon.
Frank is one the good guys. Wishing you well, Frank.
I have just heard the sad news about Frank Abela from J.N.
I wish him and his dear ones all the very best at such a difficult time.
Like many others, I've known Franks posts on here for years, albeit only via the forum, never in person. Yes, I feel he's like an old lost friend.
May he be as comfortable as possible and his family take strength from us all.
Very sad news. All good thoughts to him, his family and friends.
Sad news indeed. I have always appreciated dealers or former dealer's insight on the Forum. Frank has always been very generous with his opinions and recommendations. I wish him well .
ATB,
Mark
It's sad! I wish Frank and his family success and strength in the battle!
Frank's voice was one of the most generous and informative on the Naim forum for many years. I never met him in person, but I always enjoyed his many contributions. It is not always accurate to say that high end audio is a profession in the normal sense of the word, but people like Frank elevate the field for all who work in it by their professionalism.
May he enjoy the blessings of family and his extended circle of friends in this challenging time.
Bruce
I don't know Frank Abela in person but have found many of his posts on here very helpful and informative!
Here's to wishing him a full recovery!!
Like the vast majority of my Naim forum friends Frank is somebody I have never met in person. I have though always been struck by his generosity in actively contributing to the thread of anybody seeking advice on their system; I'm unsurprised to hear from those that have met him that he is one of the good guys. Best wishes Frank
