Dirty electricity filters

Posted by: Finkfan on 20 November 2017

Whilst sat flicking through YouTube as I waited for my children to fall asleep last night, I came across some videos discussing Dirty electricity and in particular, plug in filters that are claimed to reduced high frequency noise on the mains. It claimed that there are health benefits to be gained by reducing this noise. Does anyone have any experience with these plug in devices?

I’m not sure exactly what the make/type of device u-tube are showing, maybe if you tell us or ‘write’ up the u-tube-dot-com link.   I have a couple in use that I bought from Russ Andrews years ago.  One is on my UPS isolated SMPS power strip, the other is on my kitchen ring main on the fridge/freezer double socket.   As for health benefits ? That’s a new one on me,  is it from the same camp as cell phones frying our brains?

Not checked my electricity filters but I suppose they need a good cleaning every now & then. SWMBO decided to clean the filter in our cordless Dyson the other day, which was helpfully marked with little tap illustrations. Sadly, they didn't think to also think to put little “dry before putting this back” warnings on the filter...

Hi Finkfan,  I've been reading & watching all about your 'dirty electricity' for the last hour ............. hillarious,  its left me both laughing & concerned about some of the so called experts marketing methods wrt to the health scare tactics.   IMO there's is nothing wrong with reducing RFI & other noise on your mains,  there's nothing wrong with blaming CFL & LED lighting for such noise (other than it's mostly myth & scaremongery)    But to claim the following is a step too far "Capacitive filters have become popular for offsetting the effects of biologically harmful dirty electricity. However, on some circuits, they may generate high magnetic fields in the room which may lead to unusual mental behaviors and illness".    Whoooo, scary,  lets burn a few witches,  that'll fix it.
