Two weeks ago I took delivery of the S1 pre amp, replacing my tried and trusted 552 after many years of fantastic music. Many thanks to Audio T for excellent service and installation as always.
From cold, it was good, with all the tonal qualities of the 552 with a little more bass definition and a little sweeter in the treble. My system is active 500 drs and S800, so it should be good.
Four days in, it was outstanding, the music was totally effortless and more "real" than I have ever heard. I think this was the 1st time I felt the Super Lumina was fully justified, as everything gelled perfectly. It was excellent.
Moving on to last night and 3 days without being able to listen, 13 days in from installation and the disappointment. It was lackluster in comparison, lacking definition. It had lost the sweet spot
I am not worried (yet) but it would be nice if Darke Bear or others in a similar situation would tell of their experiences.
Thanks

Hi Lyndon,
Glad to hear about the 552 and you are pleased.
Yes, I did get to hear the mpl 201 about a year ago. Although excellent, I felt the music lacked a bit "realness" that Naim always give. I like it to be like the band is in the living room and music flows not hifi. I have always loved the Naim sound and feel that in an a/b comparison others might impress but after a couple of months the sound can bore or grate. Whereas the music flows and that is the most important to me. Over the years I have dabbled with other cables but returned to Naim after a period and found my foot tapping and realised what I was missing.
Maybe because of my time with amplification from 1984 to now it would be impossible to break while they continue to make outstanding products.
The run is going well, 3 weeks in and starting to be consistently good but I know over the next few weeks is when it will start really happening.
Thanks
Rich

Rich
to your earlier post, yes I did get the impression with the other two that they had gone straight in at 500 level rather than progressing up the Naim ladder, CB to olive to black etc
