Turn Off ATOM Display while playing – HowTo?
Posted by: Lorenz on 25 November 2017
How can I turn off the display of the Atom while playing Music? The older range had a "disp" button on the remote. Sitting in a dark room, listening to quite music with a bright yelling Display (depending on the cover / artwork) is annoying. The time/watch options fails as it reverts to cover after a few seconds.
Thanks in advance. Lorenz
Lorenz, I believe that right now you can't, but following requests Naim have said that a display dim/defeat option will come with a future firmware update.
Unfortunately you can’t! I find it quite annoying too, and a number of us gave fed our feelings back to Naim on this, so hopefully it will come in a firmware update. In fact, I’m hoping they will allow all the lights to be disabled, as the logo, buttons, display and volume control between them create a fair amount of what I see as light pollution. Others will see it differently, of course, but a choice would be nice.
Chris, I think that current rules mean that if power is applied then there has to be some kind of indication that the unit is on - so whatever happens, the logo will probably have to stay illuminated.
If I recall correctly you can turn off all the lights on a SuperUniti. And you certainly can on a 272, even when it’s mains powered rather than using a separate power supply.
Quite right, I think anything with a power amp in it stays lit up.

Actually I don't think it has to be the logo that stays on Richard because, as you can try for yourself if you have a UnitiCore (I forget whether you do have one) and haven't noticed it yet, you can set the Core logo to turn off after a short time and there remans a quite discreet power-on light on the front panel which probably meets the regulations.

It doesn't have to be the logo, no, but there does need to be a lit indicator. Of course, traditionally, the logo on Naim kit has always remained lit when all other illumination has been defeated.

And on the UnitiQute 2 - any system used for the bedroom in my house must be capable of total darkness! I suppose if not going to be used as an alarm the Atom I have within my sights could be turned off every night. Seems a bit unnecessary though - bl**dy Health & Safety I suppose?
Thanks for your feedback. Let's hope the next FW update will bring that feature. The 272 and the Qute have been able to do so for ages...
