UQ - trying to get Spotify and/or Tidal

Posted by: CaptainBlack on 25 November 2017

Hi Everyone

I just upgraded my UQ to the latest software (Version 4.4) in the hope of trying Spotify and/or Tidal.

The unit restarted fine but I can't see Spotify or Tidal in any menu or the App but otherwise everything is working just fine.

Maybe my unit is not compatible? Extensive Googling hasn't led my anywhere, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

Hi [@mention:15364009039969974], couple of thoughts which may help.

Have you checked the Input Settings either on the front screen of the UQ (via the spanner symbol on the remote/inputs) or via the app? Just have a check that the inputs are enabled, that might solve your problem.

Other thing to bear in mind is that you need to upgrade your Spotify/Tidal subscription to the Premium/Hi Fi options to be able to stream to hi fi (incl. Naim).

Let us know if this works. Good luck!

Chris

Thank you for your reply and yes, I have checked those settings. In the meantime I think that I might have found out the problem. My UQ is not the later  24/192 model but the earlier version. I suspect that you have to have the 24/192 upgrade to get Spotify & Tidal. Not sure how much this costs at the moment.

Ahh, could be. Might be worth an e mail to Naim Support to clarify if no one else on here can definitively tell you. They can probably also tell you the cost to upgrade the streaming board to 192/24 too, your dealer could find out for you also.

Indeed the Spotify and Tidal integration requires the 24/192 streamer board. This board shows “3Dxxx” when you use settings menu to display device status for firmware, etc.  The original v1 Qute, with 24/96 board, will show as “2Dxxx” and (repeating...) will not support Spotify Connect or Tidal integrated services. When I checked, about a year ago, the upgrade was about $800CDN, pretty much 1/2 to 2/3 the trade in value, and a chunk towards an Atom upgrade instead...

Best wishes.

Alan, thanks for your reply. I await the UK price but even if it's £300 I reckon that's too much to invest in that platform. At the moment it's working great and sounding great (OK without Spotify and Tidal). I think a Nova is the next stop!

As a workaround you could buy a used Airport Express for a few quid and an optical cable. That will give you Spotify over Airplay from an iPhone/iPad/Mac into your Unitiqute while you save up for an Atom!

I have a Qute V1 and was able to get tidal working with a work around.

I ran a program called Bubble Upnp Server on a computer (device) on my network.  Within Bubble Server you can create an "Open Home" Instance for the Qute.  Open Home is a protocol used by a few companies like Lumin and L!nn.

Then you can use the L!nn Kazoo app or Lumin app to control Tidal and send music to the Qute V1.

Basically the computer becomes a relay to the Qute.

Sorry, depending on your computer savvy this is either easy or I might as well be suggesting you build your own rocket to fly to the moon.  I am not judging as there is plenty in life that eludes me.

Chrissu, thats for that idea.

Brubacca, thanks for this suggestion which I confess I would never have come up with!

To be completely honest, I stumbled on it almost by mistake.  I also use a sonore MicroRendu..  BubbleUpnp is part of the software you can use on it.  I had a trial of Tidal and noticed that the Qute came up on the list of deviced that could be rendered (in Bubble) so i tried it.

I liked that the song data was displayed on the Qute's display.
