Problem importing download converted to ALAC into iTunes

Posted by: Richard Dane on 25 November 2017

I seem to be having difficulty in importing a downloaded album (Radiohead OKNOTOK - I bought the blue vinyl and tho is the included download) into iTunes.  I downloaded the album on my WIN7 Thinkpad, converted it to ALAC then stuck it on a USB stick to move over to my Macbook Pro where I then dropped the folder into the iTunes Automatic Add folder.  Normally this works just fine for moving ALAC files around but in this case it doesn't work, I just get an Error 43 dialog box. 5 tracks seem to make it but no more. There don't seem to be any nasty characters or any artwork that may be causing an issue.

I'd like to load the album on my iPod, which I use in the car - it's easier to use than any of the touchscreen DAPs I have.  However, maybe I'll have to burn the files to a couple of CDs instead.

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

With iTunes - I tend to manually create an album folder under an artist in a general Music > ITunes folder. I then add it to the library via the  File menu and let the automation do its job.

As to why some tracks play and some don’t - have a look at the file names. Is there one with odd characters, spaces or punctuation marks at the end of file names?

No odd characters as far as I can see.  It loads up to track 5 then I get the error.

Do you have any soft to check the metadata? Perhaps something amiss there....

Perhaps you could try to import directly into and convert within iTunes, i.e. skip the Win7 computer altogether. Unless the source files are FLAC of course, then iTunes won't recognise them.

The source files are FLAC.  I use the Lenovo just for Music related stuff like downloads, conversions, recording, editing, tagging, and of course, for holding my rips and downloads in FLAC format for transfer onto DAPs.

I think I will try the conversion to ALAC again in dbpoweramp and see what happens.

Failing that I'll burn to CDs and then rip on the Mac, but it just seems a bit daft to have to do so...
