Intermittent sound loss

Posted by: kassos on 25 November 2017

Help please! Having powered down my whole system and disconnected everything to give it all a good clean and try a bit of cable dressing, I have put it all back together and after a short time playing perfectly there is a kind of pop from the speakers and a loss of sound. There is still power to all components but no sound. Turn everything off, wait a minute or two and turn it back on and its all fine again. Time between pops seems to vary from 10 minutes to two hours!

Any suggestions gratefully received

System is 272, 250 dr , naca5 Cisco 2960 Synology nas, powerline , wired network Proac d2 non-Naim "XPS".

Are you sure the 250 is not turning off (is the logo lit) - the pop and sound loss sounds like the 250 powering off. Is the mains cable (Powerline ?) seated properly in the socket on the amp ?. I take it this wasn't happening before your system rebuild ?

The other thing to try is to take the Toy XPS out of the system and put the link plug in on the 272 and see if this narrows down the issue.

Yep, sounds like a loose connection somewhere. The powerline is a good place to start. Make sure it’s pushed in hard. It’s an a very tight fit!

Sounds like an overload protction on NAP 250. It will still show that a logo ia lit up but no sound from either or both channels.

I would strip the system down and check the DIN-XLR connection as well as speaker cables for any shorts.

Thank you for very helpful responses. I have given the powerline an extra push and checked all the other connections and so far all seems fine

Thanks
