New uniti range

Posted by: Snait39 on 27 November 2017

Dear all,

it is possible to use a USB cd drive together with a usb hard drive to rip cd files with the new uniti range?

So without use of a computer? Maybe someone can advise?

Thanks a lot and regards

That was originally what Naim said would be possible with the new Unit range. However the day I got my Atom I was informed by my dealer that Naim decided not to implement this feature in the Atom or the Nova. So, as far as I am aware, only the Star has the feature to Rip a CD.

Since the launch it has always been announced that only the star would have a cd drive to rip files.

Yes Claus but that isn't the question!

The OP wants to rip using a USB CD drive. I think that as Dontomlondon says, this was originally intended to be possible but hasn't been implemented in the Nova or Atom, so far anyway.

Being pedantic, it was more than an intention, it was a stated capability. From the original press release, dated 6 October 2016:

"Rip and Store (Uniti Core)

Create bit perfect copies of your CDs and store the rips on a user installed hard drive or NAS drive.

Rip and Store (Uniti Atom and Uniti Nova)

Plug in an external USB CD/DVD Drive and create bit perfect copies of CDs. Store up to 20 thousand tracks either on an USB stick/ USB hard disc (Atom) or USB Stick, SD Card or USB Hard Drive (Uniti Nova).

Have access to your music from any connected Uniti player without the need for a separate music server.

Rip and Store (Uniti Star)

Create bit perfect copies of your CDs. Store up to 20 thousand tracks either on an USB Stick, SD Card or USB Hard Drive. Have access to your music from any connected Uniti player without the need for a separate music server."

Clearly the feature got pulled at some point.

I dont have a Uniti (other than Core, and that doesnt count) to check but has this been implemented yet to QB and Muso?

"Multiroom

New Uniti gives the option of playback of sources, including analogue ones, in multiple rooms (up to five rooms) in sync (Party Mode) or of having differing music in different rooms. An example may be a turntable connected to the analogue input being played simultaneously and in sync to 5 different rooms. Nothing says party like good vinyl."

Eh? That wasnt the question. I was referring to multiroom from uniti -- badly worded on my part, but i cant edit it now unforch

Oh I see. Your question referred to the paragraph after rather than the paragraph before! I thought it was a bit odd, but.....

I am odd. I thought everyone knew that

Thanks all for clarify. Unfortunately there is no possibility to do the rips as asked.

BTW, just heard the nova vs. star at my dealers place. Liked them a lot and ordered the star.

Unfortunately longer delivery time....
