Flat Earth Resurrection

Nothing that I've yet encountered could persuade me to give up the Naim equipment I now own and enjoy. Perhaps an improved version of what I have (i.e. a 372, a vastly improved Muso), but that's about it. I have no interest whatsoever in so called 'upgrading'. The system I have thrills me every time I listen to it. I'm happy to concede there will undoubtedly be better ones out there, but I am content with what I have (and I really mean it, unlike others I could mention).

What I don't get is the high proportion of contributors to this forum who seem to be constantly seeking some sort of Holy Grail, whether it be by spending a fortune on the next 6 boxes, lengths of ever more exotic teflon coated cable, unbelievably complex racks and supports for every bit of equipment. Whilst stopping short of Peter Belt, there is a lot of 'left of centre' stuff going on here. Cable dressing and 'de-stressing', exotic (and very expensive) patch cables, dedicated 10mm mains supplies, pseudo scientific tosh from those intelligent enough to know better - the list goes on and on. As for the venerated High Priests and their sycophantic sheep like followers - words fail me!!

It seems next to impossible to simply share musical experiences on here - even the Music Room is over populated with those fixated on vinyl or those who own 127 variants of the same album, searching in vain for the ultimate (to their ears at least) in sound quality.

A search on Google reveals that, for the last 20 years or more, Naim devotees have had a reputation as Flat Earthers. I'm now beginning to understand why. There appears, to my eyes, to be a recent significant increase in the number of fanatics who manage to shout down everyone who doesn't fall into line with their self-opinionated, arrogant, comfortably off middle class 'conservative' perspective on the world of hi-fi.

I will undoubtedly continue to occasionally dip in and out, primarily to pick up listening inspiration, but my days as an active contributor are at an end. I wish you all well - may you eventually find whatever it is you're looking for (but I somehow doubt it!).

It is the nature of internet fora.

That is a shame Timmo.

I find the Forum occasionally useful, but always entertaining. I tend to avoid Padded Cell politics and ignore anything that winds me up. Hope you have a change of heart, we need to balance out those of who you speak.

And I must keep abreast of the story of those new SBLs recently discovered...

Really ?  that would be a shame Tim. A forum is what you make of it. Everyone has their different goals and indeed some of this is constantly chasing the upgrade path, whilst some have found their level and just enjoy what they have - it's a hobby and we all have different goals. Personally, even though i don't use Naim kit on a day to day basis anymore, i still find this place to be interesting place to spend a bit of time, have found some great new music via the Music Room and enjoy reading about peoples experiences (and of course system pictures). Every forum has its characters and the Block function can be useful

Just log off for a few days and come back

Chap comes to HFC for pleasure. Chap finds pleasure diminishes in HFC. Chap goes eslewhere for pleasure. Seems natural to me.

[@mention:46901101887305210] - I find a lot to agree with, in your post.  But - as [@mention:27613035029716976] observes - it is the nature of a forum on the Internet - to attract the more.... extreme views....?  I only comment now, on a few items, relating mainly to the Olive or CB era items, which I own or have owned. Upgrading is now a thing of the past - I will stick where I am, thankyou.

I cannot imagine it will change much - but its probably as bad as it could be, by now.....!  Partly, I think, its just the internet - plus its the addition to the Forum of 'non-traditional' Naim owners, to the mix. Such is 'progress'.....

Timmo,

I take issue to just about everything you say.

You may not wish to upgrade, you may not wish to switch cables (not such an enthusiast myself), you may not choose to upgrade your PSUs but come on it's a bunch of guys with an enthusiasm for what they like.   Do some (on all sides of the argument) get a little over zealous on occasions?  Sure - so what.

I second James_N advice.

Regards,

Lindsay

My guess is a pair of SL speaker wires will solve the problem. Otherwise try elevating your Vodka ethernet cable.
