Qnap tvs-871 and HDX

Posted by: 2roomsor1 on 04 December 2017

hi all, its a bit of a cry for help, i am having trouble getting my hdx to back up to an external nas, the qnap tvs-87.

my system also consists of another snap that i use as a share, local to my hdx.  my other nas backs up my share nas and hopefully my hdx, however i can not get it to convert a share to a backup.

i appreciate that there are hundres of potential glitches, issues, settings

basically, the hdx will see the share on the 871,  it will allow me to change to share to a store and back again, but when i try to change to share to a backup, i get 'unable to covert share 871tvs to a backup'

any quick sanity check?

thanks

Paul

Have you read this document:

You might be falling foul of the rule that the share must be completely empty in order to be made into a backup folder.

nothing works, the fact that it can be used as a store or a share but not a backup, am i missing something glaringly obvious?

What format is the Qnap currently formatted in? It may be worth re-formatting anyway, to make sure it really is totally empty and in the correct format for the HDX.

i have removed the share folder completely and re-created it, the option of reformatting the NAS is not an option, there are too many other shares in the data pool, 8tb of video/photos

my issue is that it can be used as a store no issue, and ripped to after the backup can not be created.

puzzling?

Could it be a “Recycle Bin” option is preventing the HDX from accepting the folder as a backup location?

Have you been in contact with Naim support on the usual email address? If not, that's what I would suggest.
