Skorpion

The Tangerine type
has anyone tried one ? And what are your thoughts ?
can this be used on a big standard plinth in place of a trampolin or does it require the full Stiletto
and how much was it ?

As to the specific details of use and cost - possibly Tangerine might know.
Although I despair of their website it must have some contact details.
The Skorpion is a phenomenal additional and enhancement to the Stiletto. It’s another 30% roughly enhancement. I guess you can use on Linn plinth as initially I was running standard Linn baseboard with my Stiletto and therefore positioning of “fixings” of Skorpion when I upgraded is the same (though Skorpion has 16 bolt holes). I highlight “fixings” because the Skorpion is bolted down to the Stiletto using M3 bolts and therefore completing the integrated sixth surface. The Stiletto plinth and Skorpion are made from same aluminium material and therefore all surfaces are homogeneous with each other and are rigid. This rigidity affords a very stable base for the sub chassis to hang from without resonance. Fixing an (thick aluminium machined) Skorpion down with wood screws to a wooden plinth, in my view, would not realise the full potential of the base - in fact I question whether if the the different materials and non-homogeneous interfaces would provide any designed benefits. I might be wrong here as the benefits of material homogeneity and rigidity was explained to me by Derek Jenkins, one of the dynamic duo at TA. Best to check with Derek or Mark at TA for benefits on non-Stiletto plinths. The Skorpion is 1.5k.
I always liked their song Wind of Change

thanks, I believe the Stiletto is £4.9k and now add £1.5k comes to quite a bit, I already have a Tiger Paw Khan top plate.
Mat this level of commitment I think I would see what the likes of SME can offer as well
The power amps should remain my first priority for now and this is quite a big step

yes, I saw them at Knebworth many moons ago

Lyndon - I see in another thread you discuss Moving to a 500. I moved from passive 135s(newly serviced) to a used 10yr 500 and the 500 pasted the 135s! It is that good. Then, I sent the 500 for the service and DR upgrade and.....WOW! Even if you pick up an old 500, spend 4.9k on service and DR, you end up with a new 500DR sonically and cosmetically (the magicians in Salisbury buff up or even replace some of the casing)! Moving to 500 based system is a no brainier.
Yes, totally agree but obviously I’ve got to do that three times
how did you find the burn in process ? Is there anyway of speeding that up
ive just replaced the 52 with a 552DR I always intended to upgrade the pre first

I have a Stiletto LP 12 which incidentally was one of the 1st made. The guy who has the Khan top plate will not be able to retain it as the Stiletto has the Karmen built in, it’s a one piece unit.
my Stiletto has a Aro, Armeggedon and Kiseki Blue NS fitted set up by the Tangerine Audio chaps Derek Jenkins and Mark Digman. At present mine has the Trampolin 2 fitted in the new year will go for the Skorpion.
The Stiletto is a beautiful made piece of kit and the icing on the cake is it delivers a stunning sound.

Martin

I have received the following message from Mark at Tangerine. He cannot, of course, comment on his own products on here but I think it’s fair for him to respond regarding the website;
Whilst I can't discuss our products here I would like to defend our website, we have just put up a new version.
You all may be interested to know we develop our products with a variety of Naim amplification, myself being a huge fan of Naim!
Regarding the Tangerine Audio web site I’ve just seen the new one and I found it very informative.

Martin

My comment was about my reaction - the new website was a long time coming and is much better.
I still don't think much to it - the products, as I know Derek, a likely to be splendid.
I presume I'm allowed an opinion? I don't much like TomTom's new site either - I'm very dull and tend to go to sites for information rather than cartoons.
No Adam, you are not allowed an opinion on this forum.
As for expressing it, well, the very idea is outrageous.
Only hard facts on this forum. I believe.
Oh, hang on, over 90% of the views expressed on here are opinions...

No, what we demand is rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty...

Lyndon,
I'm in the same place mentally with the pricings and I've noted that prices for some competitors have increased markedly of late (esp SME, given their new-ish distribution arrangements - this having also raised 2nd hand asking prices materially). I've also been advised the supposed easy to set-up and maintain spiel around SMEs may be missing out parts around regular servicing of the arm and other parts, plus replacement of the stock arm lead is advocated by many dealers. I saw a service works list for a 2nd hand one recently and it was enlightening - read as 'far more than I expected'.
I've never heard an SME 20/3 (wouldn't bother with a 20/2) and getting a side by side dem opportunity looks challenging - I think it can be done in London. IIRC, some Forumites have heard SME 30s and found them to be a tad 'cold' in musical terms - as ever only your own ears can decide. I'm told the 20/3 version (20/3a with SME V arm) is the pick.
On my list of things to do in 2018.

Just noticed the Eclipse
details on this seem very patchy
can anyone here provide some enlightenment as to what it is, how it is to be used and cost ??

I can't speak about Tangerine products on this site, but Richard can I point this to the Tangerine website.
Happy Christmas,
Regards,
Mark
Lyndon,
from the website it says it's a sub-platform. However if you want to know more then you're best bet is to get in touch with Tangerine Audio or one of their dealers.
I’ve owned a Stiletto LP 12 for over a year now and at present i’ve got the Trampolin 2 base. I’ll change it for the Skorpion in the new year.
Richard is correct the Eclipse is a sub platform that the LP 12 locks down into abet with 3 feet is Tangerine recommend.
Regards,
Martin

You are too hungry, Grasshopper, for what this world, in its arrogance, calls knowledge.
I found the webpage on the Eclipse as radiant with illumination as I had expected.
