so, my two obvious short falls now are the din-xlrs and the 135s
sticking with the 135s the obvious choice is 500 but that does mean 3 of them even S/H this will involve a cost
one way of easing this burden is to buy non DR and in need of a service amps on the basis a in need of a service 500 is going to be much better than newly serviced 135s. This may involve a period of wonky active but I don’t see a way round that.
My biggest concern with the above is getting them DRed and the subsequent 6 months burn in but the only way round this is to buy S/H DRed 500s which will be a longer process and will also result in being wonky active for longer
just curious on the thoughts of those that have traveled the 500DR ing route

Couldn't see how something with as much grip, finesse and musical communication could be significantly improved by DR mods. Until I heard one. It did take months and months. But the starting point wasn't exactly shabby. It just got even better still.
Wouldn't know about active. Not qualified to comment here. That the cost of the DR mod justified every penny of its asking price doesn't detract from the fact that the pre DR 500 is superb. Which makes a new one with DR on board, even better VFM despite the constant price increases.
Of course, this VFM lark is all relative.

I am currently on that road. Had my 500 dred in sept and it's really stunning. I did pick up two more 500s sh which are currently cued for dr upgrade, hopefully early next year. I did not have a active system before so it's an even bigger investment.

Sorry mate, cant comment on "wonky active with 500DR/2x500nonDR, my system remains in passive mode until I get the other 2 500s back. I will then move directly from 500DR passive to 3x500DR active.
