Recording from an Atom

Posted by: Neil Mack on 12 December 2017

Apologies if this has been asked before, but is there any way of recording radio in the digital domain from the Atom? The only means I can see is to record from the pre-out terminals, which of course are analogue - hardly ideal.

Thanks,

Neil

I think you may be able to connect a PC to a digital output (not sure about USB) and record using Audacity*. I haven't tried it so I could be hopelessly wrong.

* I'm sure there's more software than this which will do it - it's the only one I know as it is what I used to "digitize" my records.

But there doesn't appear to be a digital output on the Atom - hence my question.

Naim don’t put digital outputs on their all in one players, so the short answer is no, it can’t be done. You might be better off looking for a computer based solution.

Sorry, I'd assumed there is one. I'd also assumed that the USB port would allow output as it takes read/write devices such as hard disks. Wrong again

Failing that connect the pre-amp or headphone out to a laptop/macbook analogue input socket and let it do an Analogue to digital conversion  with its soundcard and use Audacity (or similar). Not ideal as there's bound to be some conversion 'loss', but as it's only a 320kb/s(ish) radio stream  it's probably not going to be audiable.
