speakers for Atom

Posted by: KenRose on 18 December 2017

Hi everyone,

I'm really loving my new Atom, using it with my Naim Credo's (external crossover) with NACA5 cable.  This weekend I was in Bay Bloor in Toronto and heard the Atom with some B&W speakers and it was amazing.  All the instruments and the clarity have me wondering if my Credos just are not right or maybe they are damaged.  It would be hard for me to think they are damaged though because I'm getting the same sound out of both of them.  So.....just curious to some entry level speakers in case I want to make a switch.

Check out Audophilia’s review of the MarkAudio-SOTA Viotti One speakers. Highly rated, and great value. I love ‘em!

Couldn't go far wrong with the usual suspects. Eg kef, ATC Blah Blah. but if you want to be a bit different personally I think you need to try and listen to some Revels. I have the M106's and there astonishingly good.

If you cant stretch to those look at the Concerta2 range, M16, very easy to drive with bags of power from, such small speakers.

You really can go very wrong with the 'usual suspects', I certainly did.  There is no question that brands like ATC, Proac, Focal, Kudos, Dynaudio, Neat, and Naim are all very well thought of by respective owners, and I am no exception, but I would never say that buying anyone of them would be a good idea necessarily.  It is quite clear that we all value and engage with different qualities, and accept different shortcomings when it come to music reproduction.  No matter how well recommended a speaker is, please listen to it, preferably at home, before buying; I speak from bitter experience.

I second the recommendation for Dynaudio Emit 20s in this thread.  Heard them at the last Acoustica show driven by an Atom and thought the combination was huge fun and made a three-box system that was great value for money.
