Using Nait XS as a power amp with an AV receiver

Posted by: Serkan on 24 December 2017

Does anyone here have a suggestion for my problem? AV in is connected to AV receiver's front pre-outs bu RCA. Link plug removed. AV bypass switch ON. However no sound, no lights on Naim.

I also have a Flatcap XS which works perfectly with Nait alone. When I leave it connected to Nait as is and switch to AV input with the AV receiver connected, then there is always sound but Nait switches between no volume control (power amp mode) and integrated amp mode (volume knob light comes on and off with around 5 second intervals) and volume increases and decreases accordingly.

I would be grateful for any help!!!

Why did you remove a link plug?

AV bypass works independently as it takes a signal directly to the power-amp.

What outputs do you use on your AV receiver?

I had removed the link plug to connect the Flatcap and did not plug it back in. Should I? I use fron Left and Right preouts of a Marantz SR6011 which I guess are always alive.

Have you enabled the AV bypass feature?

Yes it's ON!

Put the link plug back in.  I use my XS2 with the AV input and a Flatcap, but when I tried it with a different pre-amp in power-amp mode the AV bypass stopped working.  It seems the the AV bypass is not active without pre-amp/Flatcap power.

Ok I will try that and let you know. Thanks

In the XS2, the preamp power supply is used to power the 1st stage of the power-amp.  You can't use it without having the preamp powered - either internally (via the link plug) or externally (via a separate PSU such as a Flatcap or HiCap).
