Cannot connect NDX to NAS - “no server”

Posted by: Maughan67 on 28 December 2017

Hi.

I bought an NDX today, to replace my Sonos ZP90.

The internet radio part works fine - but I cannot connect to my Twonky-enabled NAS (a WD MyBook). It appears in the list of “My servers” on the Naim app, but says “no result” when selected. It says “no servers” on the NDX front panel display.

My Sonos was previously accessing the same NAS just fine.

The NDX is connected to my network by ethernet cable.

I have now spent about 5 frustrating hours trying to research this. No luck yet.  As the internet radio works and the NAS appears as a server, I am assuming/guessing that this is likely a network/firewall issue, but I just can’t work out the solution.

Can you please help me get connected?! At the moment I only have a £3k+ internet radio device!

Thank you,

Matt

Naim streamers use standard UPnP, Sonos uses it's own system.  You need to enable the Twonky server on the NAS.

Thanks, Huge. I managed to (finally) work it out shortly after posting my question. As you had suggested, it was the Twonky settings, or rather the lack of them. As Sonos seems to have accessed the NAS content on its own all these years, I had never set up the folder structure in Twonky, so I guess the NDX couldn't see any music files. All sorted now. Thank you again!

However, I'm now struggling to get the indexing and folder display as I want it in the Naim app. Not nearly as clear or intuitive as Sonos! But that's a topic for another post...

Regards,

Matt

tWonky doesn't get good press around these parts & there are not many that use it to help.  It would be good if the software could be changed.  problem is WD MyBook does not take 3rd party software.    As you've now got a damn good network player with the NDX,  it might be worth thinking of getting a pukka NAS;  favourites on this & most other forums are Synology & QNAP,  plus a good 3rd place for ReadyNAS.  Synology (mine) comes with its own UPnP software plus Minimserver/Java pre-installed,  QNAP users are either Minimserver or Asset & I believe the same for ReadyNAS.
