Naim new products 2018
Posted by: jonnaim on 01 January 2018
i thought I would make my predictions on new naim products which will be announced in 2018 as opposed to be available to buy!
1) New crossovers to work with kudos loudspeakers
Reason already seen at some demonstrations in 2017
2) 3 new streamers to replace nds , ndx and nd5
Reason fairly simply task of adding features already on unity range of streamers onto classic range to update and refresh the range.
thats it.
what do others think in one year we will see who was right?
Peasants
How could this be improved by putting a piece of clear plastic on the bottom?
One thing we can be sure of Naim will do their own thing, I don,t think it will change, but it has changed several times over the years and people are still buying.
Nothing stays the same, not should it IMHO. I prefer the new design and would happily see those principles applied to all new products from now on (of course, with adaptation for function).
I sometimes feel that members of this forum would like Naim to stay the same forever; no new design, no new technology, no Chinese-made Musos sold through non-specialist retail, no Spotify, no new app . . . and bring back the Aro.
Not me. I hope they GO BIG and introduce the new design across all their new products, and continue to innovate.
I’m more than happy with the idea of introducing new technology, so long as it’s better, and own two QBs, which I think look lovely. The new design is fine for stand alone Unitis, but in my view a stack of six boxes with plastic bars at the bottom and heat sinks at the side would look awful. Anyway, based on what I’ve picked up from Naim people, it’s not going to happen, other than introducing a new screen for the streamers. Hopefully we will know more after the Bristol show.
Agree the new facia design screen etc looks fine on the uniti range and definitely caters for the younger audience Naim is rightly looking to attract. However it should stick to the fundamentals of the classic design as much as possible which, as others have said, I understand to be the decision. The classic design has a real quality look and feel which is different to the uniti line.

I’m all for change - I own one of those new fangled Uniti Stars - but I’d like an updated ARO (with a Naim designed turntable) but we all know that’s not going to happen ????
With LED tech now we’ll developed it should be very simple, without detriment to quality, to give an option for green or white via the built in software of any new product.
What a bunch of moaners. I want white lights, I want green......
And as HH rightly says “new”is fine provided.........
These kinds of thread are always a bit like deja vu. Do you remember the uproar that came with the change from Olive to the current Classic look...?
Still, it’s fun to read all the speculation of what may (or may not) come at some point in the future. Personally I like the Naim record player idea. Same as I do every year...
I wasn’t going to bother with Bristol this year but clearly with so much new stuff to review I’ll need to go for all 3 days!
If this is time and place to wish upon Naim's Star, may I wish for following:
- Naim voiced speakers from Naim, or big brother Focal, active would be nice and looking back to SBL or SL2 would be welcome.
- Speaker section on Forum to centralize the challenges of matching and endless discovery/learning experiences so many have.
- Audio support section on Forum that addresses cables, stands, mains, placement.
Much of the above is floating around the Forum, but would be nice to centralize access of these subjects and have more active input from Naim. At the end of the day Naim is really vendor of art supplies offering electronics as others do canvases, paints & brushes. Aspiration to acquire for many is search for beauty, refinement and recognition of musical truth that Naim advances, patronizes and profits as art dealers and galleries may do. I wish they articulated that mission/vision out loud. Otherwise we are left with audio stores are often distracting cacophony where art of audio and its search for beauty is if not denied than forgotten.

I think we should have a contest to name the new Naim record player!
How about the Beau? Means handsome in French. Beau and Aro?

On that theme, how about the Agincourt? Might give those French guys rise to the challenge and make some decent speakers
The eNaimble Turntable. This turntable will be so good it will sound like it is from another planet and hence the name will be shortened to the ET. There might even be an entry level turntable made of clear plastic with Naim etched on the side and lit with a white light, called the Uniti ET.
I'll get me coat.
SuperCore à la Melco.
Chag -
Like A working core?
I agree keep the look of the current classic cases not keen on the Nova casing.
Future: We all know the longevity of Naim Pre amps like the 72/52 etc how about modular DACs like plug internal Phono stages.
DACs at the moment seem to take a leap forward in technology every few months take the 272 wouldn't it be nice on a future model to be able to remove the DAC and replace it with the latest spec without replacing the Pre.
Now that’s a nice idea for customers, not sure about the business though.

A modular dac is a very good idea. Accuphase and McIntosh offer this with their integrated amplifiers.
So to go with Beau and Aro how about a cartridge called Quiver.
To come complete with green tights!!!!
Filipe, great albums (especially loud), but perhaps the Music Room might be a better place...

Apertura french speakers, work very well with naim. From 2k to 20k. A bit sonus faber sound, but more dynamic and speed.
