Naim new products 2018
Posted by: jonnaim on 01 January 2018
i thought I would make my predictions on new naim products which will be announced in 2018 as opposed to be available to buy!
1) New crossovers to work with kudos loudspeakers
Reason already seen at some demonstrations in 2017
2) 3 new streamers to replace nds , ndx and nd5
Reason fairly simply task of adding features already on unity range of streamers onto classic range to update and refresh the range.
thats it.
what do others think in one year we will see who was right?

I was at the factory just over a year ago and one of the things that got discussed was why the new Unitis have white logos and not green. I gather they did try green out, but it just didn't look right, not nearly as good as white anyway. So they stuck with white....

Personally, I think the streamers and Uniti range is doomed unless the software gets sorted soon.
I have an nDAC and NAS which provides all I needed. The Panasonic Viera TV range uPnP support connects to the NAS which only has Twonky Media Server and provides brilliant replay through even a AQ Forrest optical cable, which keeps the crap away from the HiFi. Others use fibre bridges to achieve the same with their streamers.
I have compared with my CDX2 via DC1 into the nDAC, NDX, UnitiServe SSD and Core, and the SQ difference of the TV as a player is only noticeable with high frequencies.
TIDAL and other source played from an iPad via the nDAC front USB port sound better than the NDX analogue output even with an XPSDR connected.
My RP10 turntable still has the edge.
So I think Naim should go back to their routes.

They never did that when they moved from CB to olive, or from olive to triptych, and why on Earth would they do it now? Naim have very carefully worded their intentions that existing Classic products will not be put into new style boxes, but as the new products will no doubt have new names and different innards, why would anybody think to put them in the old style boxes?

Well Chris..... they did! I think the new streamers look great in the classic casing.
Popeye posted:For me all I hope is that Naim will keep the look and feel of the existing classics range as for me for many years I have always aspired for that little green logo!!
I can only hope they don't change everything to the Lok and feel of the new Uniti range and the modern white logo! ????

And they did!!
I'm happy with the new look as it allows me to replace my 272 and keep my 250.
But I would also need a pre-amp!!! Not the outdated 252/282 with their oversensitive volume control and double row of buttons, but a modern pre-amp with HDMI functionality. Anxiously waiting for its release!
Please refer to my first post on page 1.
Was I right or was I right?
just need the crossovers to appear later in the year.
this really was a very obvious product launch will generate lots of sales the investors
in naim will be pleased about this one.

They’re just softening the blow for all you diehards by introducing new features gradually

Totally agree. Please correct me if I am wrong, music, recording techniques and production have all evolved over time. Even more so, digital media has largely overtaken physical media like CDs and interfacing with devices have also evolved a whole lot thanks to such as Apple for touch screens and IOT, WiFi, etc. My first computer had a hercules monitor - green but I love the retina display. I also love the touch strip. It changes with application and it can be customised.
IMHO, Uniti Atom is a beautiful product. Volume control is touch controlled covering most of the top surface, full colour screen in front also covers much of the front. The casing also act as heat sink. These are good. Would be awesome if Nova and Star have LED screen covering the entire front face and are touch screens. So many have complained about the remote control with shiny surface is a finger print magnet. Naim can definitely use more UX in product design. Personally, SQ is most important but overall experience doesn't end with SQ. It should include upgradeability, customer support and more. I am not saying the old Naim products are not beautiful, but I don't think they are iconic enough to have to maintain that look. In fact, given one of Naim's main selling point is the transformer. Perhaps it should be designed like some tube amp where it proudly sticks out. Alternatively, have clear casing so owner can admire all its beautiful components. Just kidding because that won't radiate heat effectively, and showing off Tecs slot drive at the top of Star will probably hurt more than help.
