Naim new products 2018

Posted by: jonnaim on 01 January 2018

i thought I would make my predictions on new naim products which will be announced in 2018 as opposed to be available to buy!

1) New crossovers to work with kudos loudspeakers

Reason already seen at some demonstrations in 2017

2) 3 new streamers to replace nds , ndx and nd5

Reason fairly simply  task of adding features already on unity range of streamers onto classic range to update and refresh the range.

thats it.

what do others think in one year we will see who was right?

As an Atom owner I'd love for Focal and Naim to jointly develop a speaker, or a range of speakers, for the Uniti boxes. Ideally above the 905/906/926 range - perhaps in the Kanta range but smaller than the Kanta 2 currently out..

Probably wishful thinking but assuming they have aggressive sales figures in mind for the Uniti range, it could make sense to produce complementary speakers - we'll see...

I’ve always thought similar... I’m surprised (from a marketing point of view) they don’t slightly change the marketing and have the “Uniti by Naim” branding (and for that matter “MuSo by Naim”).  Then develop a series of speakers suitable for each level of Uniti ... something small for the Atom, perhaps a larger stand mount for the Star and a floorstander for the Nova.  Then aim to sell (as well as through specialist HiFi stores) through high end “High Street” such as John Lewis, Selfridges and “independents” such as Harrods and Liberty’s.  Try to get at the Bose and B&O market.

Yes exactly - the range is clearly aimed at the lifestyle market as well as to lapsed audiophiles looking for simplicity and a packaged approach should be a no brainer - certainly at the Liberty/Harrods end of the market..

Certainly one area where there is tangible synergies betwee Naim and Focal but I don’t know how deep the cross fertilisation between the two companies goes

Thinking from a marketing point of view (and not talking as someone with more than a consumer interest in marketing), with a subtle rebranding you could even have Uniti by Naim accompanied by Uniti Speakers by Focal.

Although it sounds counterintuitive, I suspect it might be easier to sell a £2,500 system with speakers than it is to sell a £1,750 system which a customer needs to add speakers to.

On the marketing side, I would love to see Naim joining forced with Linn, Rega and Chord (and others) to launch the “British HiFi” store.  Positioned in prime space next to Bose stores in the Bull Ring and similar.  Selling more “lifestyle” end of the market... but take the challenge to Bose.  Probably end in bankruptcy but the thread is full of wishful thinking.

As a similar product... it would be interesting to know what percentage of Arcam Solos were sold with their matching Muso (yes I know!) speakers.

The massive vinyl resurgence accounted for less than 3% of the music market in 2016 and the profile of top-selling artists on vinyl was firmly skewed to an older demographic.

I'm certainly pleased that Naim aren't going to be messing around with tone arms in 2018, it's a very small boat they're missing.

I think a new flagship streamer is definitely on the cards,  allot of lessons have been learnt by developing the new unity range - I think the results will be quite spectacular - this will finally give the Statement something to really chew on. This new streamer will cascade updates - further down the range....very exciting times ahead.

Same for me,  but conditional is that a house move goes with it.    Already fixed are one or other active ATC's dependant on whatever the new room size is.  Electronics will be whatever high level front end(s) come to fruition,  streamer/pre integrated or separates.   I'm in no rush & hopefully will be well sorted by the time the house move gets done.

any improvements of streaming can only be small.  the market surely is going all in one systems, my guess is wireless speakers are on the up. Total  lifestyle systems

Streaming has a long way to go.     All in one is for lifestyle people,  the specialist audiophile systems will still be there.

The specialist audiophile systems will still be there but in ever decreasing $$$ value as a proportion to the overall market... High quality lifestyle systems is where the money is ... from a marketing point of view I believe it is easier to persuade people hitherto exposed to low-fi/mid-fi to trade up to quality - e.g. Naim Uniti, Devialet etc.. than to attract the few with deep pockets to the very high-end.

The industry is consistently showing itself inept at selling luxury goods which is what $100,000 speakers and amps are - without some pockets in Asia who still buy there would be very little left of the high-end that lots of people aspired to 20-30 years ago.

A complete Atom system with speakers, plug-n-play, for say $5,000 - the price of an entry level Swiss mechanical watch, is something that many emerging affluent people can afford. The challenge is to reach them, marketing is expensive...

I think the new high end streamer - will be Roon ready, have full DSD support, colour display and new DAC chipset, 385 pcm , Statement learnt analogue sections ........... the guy I bought the 552dr from was buying a Statement Preamp .... he had allot of direct contact with Salisbury - he seemed to pretty certain something really special is imminent....we will see...

My wish a seperate streamer too.

I seem to remember an interview with (I think) Paul Stephenson where he mentioned almost as an aside "a Statement-level source component".  Anybody else remember that interview or am I hallucinating?

Aspiring to do something and then developing  the product and bringing to market are very different.

Wireless speakers are (IMO) pointless ... they still need power!

Unless it is wireless to an active speaker...

A Focal speaker that can be taken active and replace the DBL!

Less likely than a top end streamer, but a nice thought.

A speaker with that beautiful veneer on [@mention:1566878603871052] SL2 speakers, just do not see that craftsmanship anymore......perhaps at esoteric prices. And they would have to sound that good as well or better..

A really good sounding and powerful integrated amp. Good enough on it’s own to sit behind a great source and drive even difficult speakers with real grip and control. So good in fact that there is no need to futz with add on power supplies to make it “better”. That’d be nice

I heard they were working on an update to the Classic series of streamers.  Still the same casework but would have upgraded processing power like the new Uniti series as well as colour display, etc.

Naim has developed one: it's called SuperNait 2

I already repeat for the third year in a row ND555, hope it will now really come and that I can afford it.
