Naim new products 2018

Posted by: jonnaim on 01 January 2018

i thought I would make my predictions on new naim products which will be announced in 2018 as opposed to be available to buy!

1) New crossovers to work with kudos loudspeakers

Reason already seen at some demonstrations in 2017

2) 3 new streamers to replace nds , ndx and nd5

Reason fairly simply  task of adding features already on unity range of streamers onto classic range to update and refresh the range.

thats it.

what do others think in one year we will see who was right?

What's wrong with the NDS ?

Nothing but when I hear the competition like Linn, I think the NDS can be improved upon - while maintaining the Naim carateristics.

Not that convinced on Linn myself, but what I would say listening to what they have achieved with the Nova at the 4K price point, with a preamp and amp.......they can wring a lot out of this new architecture at 10k or more just streaming.

If Naim is watching Less is more........

Let’s hope Naim will surprise us...

Guys

If its true the new uniti boxes are much better amplication than previously, I can't think of any reason Naim shouldn't convert this technology to new boxes = new range of amplication.

This happend last time around 2002

i am more thinking of an nds2 , with a comparable price.   The nd555, in statement level, may cost at minimum 20k without ps, normally the minimum double price of nds.  Too expensive for me.  My logic is cds3/ nds level / price to cd555/nd555 level/price.   The cd555 was the double price of cds3.

Of course only personal assumption.

A really good sounding and powerful integrated amp. Good enough on it’s own to sit behind a great source and drive even difficult speakers with real grip and control. So good in fact that there is no need to futz with add on power supplies to make it “better”. That’d be nice

Naim has developed one: it's called SuperNait 2

No. Thinking of something much better. Think the Vitus integrated. That sort of ballpark

Those big, really powerful 300 WPC integrated amps, that's actually more than twice the power of the 500, always sound slow and cumbersome to me, the Naim always sounds faster, light on it's feet and full of energy, with and without those futzy power supplies. I'll take the Naim every time, thank you very much.

i have heard the vitus one day and found it sounded a bit like accuphase : nice, soft but boring, without the magic midrange of tubes nore the grip and edge of naim.  Boring neutrality.

Both wrong but that is to be expected on a single church forum like this one. If you think a SuperNait of any description holds the faintest candle to the Vitus 100 amp then God bless and goodnight lol..

In many cases your right about the single church but everytime I've heard Vitus I was impressed by the open  natural performance and the grip.

Did I enjoy music ?

Naah.., not really !

Mostly hifi, very expensive but it didn't involve me into the music.

Sorry

In another thread there’s someone with a Gryphon Diablo, I wonder how that compares? Maybe it replaced some Naim amps if the owner is on this forum.

the vitus is a lot better in hifi criteria, majoring on details, bass, soundstage....But for pleasure of listening i prefer the supernait, more involving and lively.

That Vitus 100 is the big bruiser baby in the range.  You should be looking at the SIA 025 mk2.

The 100 is a big 300 watt a-b design.  The 025 a 30 watt class A design.    The 100 is meant to be good, but the 025 is meant to be legendary.

i found an interesting thread elsewhere, some guys comparing nac552/nap 500 vs vitus sia-025:   the vitus is more transparent, nicier, with more details and the soundstage and separation of instruments is a lot better.  But naim separates have more grip and prat and the bass is more defined.

Some have concluded that vitus is best for classic, voices, solo instruments. Naim for jazz and rock.

I've owned 552/500 and SIA-025. As always with this hobby let your ears (and wallet) decide.

Friends

Most high-end audio companies are opting out of CES. CES itself has become less welcoming choosing to emphasize other developments in electronics like home automation and self driving vehicles. And, much like Britain, we now have several audio only specialist shows.

Now that the trend in HiFi is lesser boxes, Naim will create a new integrated amp with Dac to compete with likes of the Hegel H190 (£3,200), an amp which will work well with analogue and digital connections and will drive most speakers.

That’s Uniti Atom, Star or Nova......£2k to £4K, unlikely to do anything else in this area for a while IMO.
