Hello to all
I wanted to know how to play dsd with my n-dac

P.S.
both have the latest firmware update
thank you all

I presume you are using the ND5XS as a transport into the DAC? Do you have a NAS or computer running a UPnP server connected to the streamer. If so, it should play DSD files.

my music is all about nas but I can not make the dsd play
can you help me?
thank you

Are you running a UPnP server on your NAS? If so, you should be able to stream DSD over your network to the ND5XS. Minimserver or Asset can do this.

but according to you the nd5xs can be connected to the PC to be recognized as an audio device?

Your NAS must be installed with DLNA/UPnP software with DSD capability,   Synology's own Media Server or with QNAP then Asset & Minimserver.   Same applies if you are using a PC/Mac/laptop as a recognised audio device,  it too must have DSD enabled UPnP software installed.

Yes, the Naim streamers can, specifically UPnP end point audio devices... the audio is ‘pushed’ by a compatible UPnP server. (Minim and Asset don’t work this way) However the streamer server doing the pushing still needs to recognise DSD, and typically the UPnP media server device will send DSD as DoP, which means the DSD data  is sent within a PCM / WAV data construct. the Naim streamers recognise this.

BTW when streaming this way where the data is pushed the Naim streamers are unable to do gapless. For gapless you need to use UPnP media server and setup that pulls the data back to the streamer. This is the way Minim and Asset work. Again the media server that is having the data pulled from it still needs to support DoP - which as Mike says, Asset and Minim do.

Yes, if you install UPnP server software on it. Alternatively, you could connect it directly to your DAC, but then you would not be able to control it with the Naim app.

Hi Pino

Can you confirm what DSD file types you want to play. Are these dsf or dff files? If possible you should always choose dsf files since these can be tagged using a tag editor such as mp3tag with metadata to identify the artist, album etc. whereas dff files do not support tag editing.

here I am running the minim server software on my nas
the assigned directory is the right one (dsd file folder)
but unfortunately the dsd files are not played on nd5xs.
maybe something escapes me?
thank you all

Pino

It might be worthwhile having a look at this old thread:

Alternatively, I’d suggest giving Asset UPnP a trial as this can certainly  serve DSD dsf and dff files to your ND5XS and you should be able to install a free trial version on your QNAP to try before you buy.

Pino.....are these DSD64 files? Will they play off a USB stick?
