Spotify streaming intermittent

Posted by: Tariqv on 05 January 2018

Hi, I'm experiencing momentary (1-2 seconds) pauses of music every 20-30 seconds using ipad air as the controlling device. When I switch to listening through the ipad itself not experiencing any issue, it just plays continuously. It doesn't matter if I'm streaming in normal (160 kbit/s) or extreme (320 kbit/s) quality. My streamer is an NDX, it has a wired connection.

Thanks

A regular cyclical dropout usually points to a buffering issue due to internet or LAN bandwidth. It does seem a bit odd, though, to see this with a wired connection and a lossy, compressed stream like Spotify. Have you checked the NDX buffer to see if it is emptying?

What do you mean by ndx buffer emptying? Where could I check that?

While the NDX is playing, press the 'i' button on the remote a few times until the buffer level shows on the NDX screen. If everything is working OK, the buffer will stay full. If the buffer level reduces to zero, then the sound drops out, you have a buffering or bandwidth issue.

A lossy compressed stream like Spotify doesn't need a super fast connection, but best to check this first to see it it's a problem.

Hi again nothing happens when I press i on the remote, I dont see the bitrate on the screen. Let me mention that when I start Spotify the first time it plays perfectly for around 15-20 minutes, the problems start afterwards.

Hi, what is your broadband connection type, speed and router? It does sound unusual as Spotify is not demanding on resources, but your symptoms point to this area. It’s also worth checking your NDX has the latest firmware in it that you downloaded from Naim.

Ok so I think I’ve narrowed down the problem to the NDX itself or its connection to the spotify app. My NDX firmware is the latest and the ios app v5.9, so they’re both updated already. Whenever I start Spotify it says input initializing on the screen of the NDX, and the remote control of the NDX becomes unresponsive as in the buttons do not work. Is there any way I can reset the NDX so it operates properly?
