"Rooms & Discovery"

Posted by: A funny thing happened on the way to the on 05 January 2018

Hi All,

I have read previous posts on this, as well as Phil's sticky to no avail and wonder if anyone can shed any light.

There are a couple of issues, they may be related.

Notes; there is only 1 wifi access point, one network, no POE.

System ; N serve   Super uniti  UniteQute x 2

I-phone IOS 11.2.1

Issue 1.

The Nserve doesnt appear as a UPNP device on naim app.

The N serve app had to be manually configured. I had to turn auto connection "off" and manually enter Ip address. When auto connection is on the app just "hangs" as it trys unsuccessfully to auto. I have downloaded the pro version of net analyser, but this seems to scan wifi and this device is connected by ethernet cable.

How can I "add the Nserve to the list of UPNP devices if not discovered?

I can access via desktop client no problem on a laptop that is wireless.

Issue 2

I have to manually add rooms to the naim app, nothing discovered.  How also do I get to the "Rooms' page of the app? once i manually set up I i can t go back to select another room.

Once found, i seem to be able to connect once only, they cant reconnect to the device.

Thanks all !

I assume you mean Unitiserve rather than n-serve, but the app for Unitiserve is indeed n-serve.

All of this should work perfectly well and you shouldn't need to enter rooms manually. If you have to do that, it means discovery isn't working properly.

The first thing I would suggest is turn off your router, your Unitiserve, your SU and your UQ2. Delete n-serve and the Naim app from your iPhone and reinstall from the App Store so you are starting with fresh copies that have no previously added data.

Then restart your router. Wait until it has fully started up then you can turn on your Unitiserve, SU and UQ2.

Next start the Naim app. It should find your UQ2 and SU and if you select upnp in one of those, then it should find your Unitiserve.

You only need to use the n-serve app as well if you want to edit metadata for rips, monitor ripping or control the Unitiserve if it has a direct connection to your UQ2 or SU rather than an Ethernet upnp connection.

When you start the n-serve app, it should find your Unitiserve and you then have to tell the app to connect. It should do so in 5 or 10 secs. You may have to repeat this every day or so, but it's no problem.

In the Naim app, you change rooms by tapping the name of your current room at the top middle of the iPhone screen and you then get a list of rooms. You just tap the one you want to change to.

Of all of that lot, restarting your router is the most important thing. If it doesn't reliably allow all of this Naim kit to work properly then you could think about a new router.

i hope this helps.

best

Net Analyzer will find all devices on your network, both wired and wireless, as long as they have been allocated an IP address. If you can't see some of your devices, you certainly have a network issue of some sort. What is the wireless access point you refer to? Is this your ISP supplied router, or if not, how is it connected to that?

Ok, usual suspects for this is a multicast propagation interoperability issue with some Home broadband router/Wifi access points... anyway log onto your Wifi access point, possibly bolted to your broadband router, and look for a setting called ‘IGMP Snooping’... and make sure it is the snooping function, and disable it.... if you have a switch in between your router switchport and media server and streamer check to see if that has IGMP snooping as well and disable... if it has no feature or you can’t log into it, then it won’t support this advanced functionality and you should be fine... and the fact your wired PC has no issue suggests this is not a switching issue.

you should not need to do anything manually, as that is a sign something significant isn’t working properly somewhere.

Ok Upshot was that the Linksys WRC1900 router wasnt playing with the Huawei HG659b modem (which had wireless off etc)

i spent some time on the ph with the Linksys people who whilst being very nice, did nt really know how to sort.

By removing the lInksys everything has appeared and is correct. Both devices hitherto worked well together, not sure if a firmware update put cat amoungst pidgeons..

i opted to foresake some of the functionality of the router to have everything work smoother with just the Huawei.

Thanks again for the input gents.
