Naim app and Android...

...Do not get on well.
I'm using the Naim app and integrated Tidal app on my OnePlus5 (flagship smartphone) and the app is flaky as fu*?! For example; Album artwork jumps around when scrolling and it's difficult to choose the desired album. As I end up selecting the wrong one.
Tidal integration is also not great with the search function disappearing half the time or more recently just crashing the app.
Also when choosing uPnp mode to browse my cd collection (on NAS) the Tidal home screen appears instead for no reason, quitting the app and re-launching fixes the problem temporarily.
Have others experienced any issues with the Naim app on android? It's getting very frustrating using the app and Tidal.
I'm running a Qnap TS 453pro and MinimServe with latest firmware. and have a Netgear switch between the Qnap and my SuperUniti so network (all wired) is perfectly adequate.
I love a good Naim app bashing that app is ... after some extended usage over the holiday period working well.
Major plus I loved was swapping constantly between my Android mobile, then tablet and even my iPad (urghhh) worked damn seamlessly.
Yes a long lag and still issues which switching say tidal to USB or playlists to quick and the Album work on the Nova being wrong, but no lock ups.
I get the same issue with album covers... Does as four albums wide on my phone until I start scrolling... Then it thinks I need a scroll bar so makes room for one and changes to showing just three albums across... This changes the scroll position and makes picking a particular album tricky.
It is why I use bubble upnp most of the time.
Steve.
Yes, I would have to agree Domtom. Its a lot better than it was, the Naim development team have done a lot to improve it but it still has issues. For me its mainly Finding Rooms that causes me grief, especially after the phone goes into sleep mode, but also just generally.
Having got an iPad last week, the app on iOS is very stable and always quickly finds my Unitiserve, not so via Android. Its a different experience for sure.
I totally get it, with iOS its a closed system, easier to cater for. But with Android, thousands of combinations, must be really difficult to check out all possibilities, extremely difficult to get repeatable issues back at HQ as found in the field.
I'm sure the development team are back on it now that Christmas is out of the way, hopefully an update or two coming our way soon.
Thanks CHRISH, I understand that development for android can be more difficult because of all the variations. I'm quite tempted to just get an iPhone if the iOS version of the app works as it should.
Although, I shouldn't need to buy yet more devices just to have the Naim app work properly.
I'm still underwelmed by the android version of the app
For all the reasons given above....but especially the swapping between tidal / server and back and the constant crashes in tidal mode
The cover issue when browsing the uPnp library is an annoyance. Luckily when in list mode, it's more stable. Tidal is still very much buggy and I can't find a workaround, which is a shame, as I've been thinking about switching from Spotify for good.
I have tried bubble upnp with much better results. But obviously it doesn't allow for changing and controlling other source on the Naim streamer. So you end up having to go back into the Naim app anyway. At least I can always go to my remote for these.
Incidentally, had a quick look on the Apple App Store, it seems that the iOS Naim app doesn't have favourable reviews either. So it's not just the Android version that has issues.
Maybe it's something about Android phones as the app works perfectly on my Lenovo Android tablet.
Can be a bit of a pain on my Acer Iconia Android tablet. Thinking about going Apple.
NAIM Said the android app would catch up ,it is flawed still .i very reluctantly went to iPad, even that is clunky.
wish it was upto sonos/auralic lighting
I switched from Android to IOS after experiencing problems with the APP running my NDX and Core. I don't experience the problems since the change to the IOS APP, in my case the IOS APP is a vast improvement particullary when ripping CDs with the Core.
Sometimes people blame the app when there is a problem with the home network or router. Just saying ...
Does it make things better if you switch the cover view from the matrix view to one-cover-per-line?
The issue that I sometimes find is that you cannot get back to a parent folder when browsing in upnp. Instead the app always switches back to the home screen. You have to stop and restart the app to make it work again.
Dom,
i use my Aton and core via the naim app, and operate the system using my one plus 5T and I have no issues with its operation.
loking at albums I get 4 across the screen, and this is the same when I scroll down the list. No problems at all

I also get 4 albums across the screen, but when I start to scroll thought them, I find that often they disappear and appear in a slightly different location. I use to use an old iPhone 4, and didn't have as many issues with the Naim app as I have now.
One cover-per-line view works fine, however.
I will borrow an iPad mini tonight and have a play around with the iOS app, perhaps I will have more luck with that.
I had a play with the iOS app last night and everything worked as it should. So I don't believe it's my home network, but rather something not quite right with the Android app.
The list view does remove the scroll 'jitter' but at the expense of a clear view of the album covers.

It is probably the variety of android phones that cause the album art issue... I guess mine is just enough pixels wide for the app to think it can fit 4 albums on a row but changes it's mind when it adds a scroll bar. I am guessing your tablet has a width that makes the app pick a stable number per row. Apple have just a few standardised screen sizes (the iPhone X might have changed this) so it is easier for the developers to test with. Perhaps Naim could say which Android phone(s) they test the app with.
Bugs aside, I generally like the design of the app. Navigating back to the upnp library, mentioned by Gert, is about the only thing I find confusing.

As I previously posted since switching to IOS no problems you can get glitches with the Android app quite ironically my problems with the Android app only started when I purchased a Core, tracks would stop playing if you used the remote control all OK like wise if I went back to my Synology NAS everything worked as it should.
The app simply was not fully compatible with my NDX and Core
I generally browse by artist and in list view, so I usually see a text list with (pointless) folder icons down the side.
But I just checked albums in a grid view, and also get the judder as the android slide bar intermittently intervenes over the top of the app slide bar. I didn't realise it was one bar over the top of another initially, but you can see it if you look carefully while sliding the screen a bit at a time (as you would when browsing normally).
I can actually get my phone to display 6 albums per row by pressing grid view multiple times, but they're a bit small at that size.
I mention this because I'm using a Nexus 6p. It might no longer be a flagship, but as the purest form of stock android phone at the time, Naim would be mad not to have used these (among others) for testing when they were the current model. And it'd only be sensible to use a Pixel 2 now, among others obviously.
Or perhaps they only test using simulated devices?
