Nap 300 Burndys
Posted by: themrock on 11 January 2018
Had a look at the Naim connecting guide.
Is it correct that the Burndys between 300 Head and 300 Ps have no running direction.
Cant see a marker.
There are markers about 10cm from one end. That end goes at the head unit.
Thank you, was wondering, because there ate no markers in the diagramm.
The marker is a white band just visible beneath the sheath webbing.
On my Nap300 one burndy has a white band the other is green....perhaps this was a change to help distinguish left and right channel.
Which colour is for which chanel?
Asking, because my ordered Nap 300 will arrive next week.
In the connecting guide are only different colours for the other 2 cables
No clue, just a guess

Isn't your dealer installing your new 300DR? I was under the impression that was part of the service...
I too am waiting for a 300dr and the burndy question doesn't seem to be resolved. Are the burndies channel specific and if so surely they should be colour coded to match the din to xlr leads ?
Dealers are not too keen to install when it involves a 10 hour round trip and possibly overnight accommodation.
Well, IIRC my NAP500 Burndys were directional (banded end under the webbing) but not handed, so I'm fairly sure that the NAP300 was the same in this regard. I wouldn't think that this has changed with the DR versions, but I guess Naim would know for sure.
The DIN-XLR leads are both directional and handed - GREEN for CH1 (Left), and RED for CH2 (Right). If you find this kind of thing hard to remember then let me try to make it easier for you; just think R for RED = R for Right.
The two burndies for a 300DR are exactly the same. The two sockets on the 300PS are labelled Ch1 and Ch2 and the two sockets on the head unit are labelled in the same way. You connect one from Ch1 to Ch1 and the other Ch2 to Ch2. Each burndy has a ring under the webbing at the end that plugs into the head unit.
You can’t get the din to XLR leads the wrong way round, for obvious reasons. It doesn’t matter which socket you use for the din connection on the preamp power supply (or 272) because they are all stereo. But as the leads are mono, you won’t get any sound if you plug the XLR into the wrong socket on the head unit.
Well that's pretty conclusive, many thanks.
