Non-responsive Atom - Any ideas on how to revive it?

Posted by: AndyHamburg on 16 January 2018

Hi Everyone,
My Atom has become non-responsive. Maybe someone's had a similar issue and knows how to revive it?
Here's what happened:
1) switched on Atom with remote, watching/listening to BRAVIA TV via Toslink for about an hour, low-ish volume around 35 - no issues
2) wanted to mute volume to make a phone call and noticed remote was unresponsive (batteries are new), couldn't adjust/mute volume (or do anything else)
3) tried to operate Atom via iPhone App - Atom was recognized by app, but Atom non-responsive i.e. I could change the volume on the app but the Atom didn't respond.
4) Tried to switch Atom off/on with power button on Atom - Atom non-responsive
5) finally pulled power mains to restart.
6) Atom boots up but still non-responsive
7) and Atom's power button is flashing intermittently like Morse code: 4 flashes, short pause, 1 flash, short pause, three flashes, long pause, repeat. Is it trying to tell me something? Does it have shut-in syndrome?
Interestingly, I can open iPhone Spotify app and select music to play on the Atom - and the display on the Atom switches to the Spotify cover art. But no sound and the Atom remains non-responsive.
Has anyone had a similar issue? Any ideas?

Thanks!
Andy

Not really an idea, but pulling the power cord and leaving for a few minutes.......is the usual fix for a “silly” software hiccup. Re plug and see if it comes back.

Try holding down the power button for a few seconds before releasing.  It's a fairly common computer reset.  It might work to reset the boot-up.

Thanks for the suggestions. No luck so far, unfortunately.

I had a similar experience with a new Atom (some details in a thread about new equipment performance vs support when things go wrong...)

You need to call Naim tech support and reach out to your dealer. The blinking light indicates a hardware fault. Your unit needs fixing or replacement; there is likely no user or software intervention to get you out of this one...

Best wishes for a quick turnaround. Call today...

Andy - i had exactly the same problem on a less than 24 hours old Atom - there's a thread somewhere on this forum i started.

The bad news is that you need a replacement Atom and i understand they are in relatively scarce supply because Naim cannot keep up with supply.  The situation may be worse in Germany (assuming that is where you live) than the UK.  But at least you're still under warranty.

Andy, I would get in touch with your dealer or Naim support ASAP.

Thanks for all your comments and tips. I wrote to Naim and contacted my dealer.

Good luck eh.  Sorry you have issues with it, but it will be worth it when you get it up and running. It's a great unit.
