NaimUniti 2 "Input initialising" under Spotify

Posted by: Kiteloop on 18 January 2018

Hello,
every now and then my NaimUniti 2 quits playing from the Spotify App operated under iOS and gives me the following text in the display "Input initialising please wait".
As long as I don't turn the Uniti off and on again the text will not disappear.
(I have the uniti operated via cable and not wireless)
Does anybody have an idea how to get rid of this bug?

Thanks, Chris

Sounds like the Uniti is losing its network connection. Hard to say why at this point, but my first suggestion is to do a full network restart. Turn off everything connected to you network, then turn the router back, and let it settle for a few minutes. Then turn on the Uniti and check that it finds the network. Then your iOS device, and make sure it all works. Then turn on any other devices on your LAN. It could be something like a simple IP address conflict, and this might well sort it. If not, you'll need to dig a little deeper.

Uniti doesn’t play from the Spotify App as such. It uses an embeded software - iOS app is just a controller.

Input initiallisng means could mean: a network problem; Spotify log-on problem (make sure you have the latest Uniti firmware uploaded) - experienced that once many moons ago.

Thanks for your help.
I already exchanged the router a while ago since I also thought that it was the source of the problem.
Unfortunately it didn't get any better. The good thing is that everything still works and it is a minor "cosmetic" problem and not worth putting too much time and effort into it.
Just hoped that my problem was already known and had a simple solution.

I used to have that issue with my old Uniti - I replaced my cheap switch with a Cisco 2960 and it never recurred. Worth a try for £50 s/h off Ebay. I never expected it to be a cure as no other devices were affected but it is. The Cisco is a good idea anyway - see posh switch thread.

I had assumed that you were unable to play music when this happens, but apparently not? I guess it doesn’t really matter as long as the Naim and Spotify apps are working normally. Personally, I don’t even look at the front screen, and keep it turned off when possible.

Another thing that might solve it is to log out of Spotify, then restart the app and the Uniti. Or even reset the streamer to factory settings, although this may lose you some other settings you have applied.

Sorry for not being clear about it.
They (Spotify and Naim) are more or less working normally. Every now and then (after 2-3 hours) the music quits playing. After skipping the last song it continues playing again and the window of the Naim reports the problem with the initialization.
Looks like I have to live with it for now. The only thing I haven't tried yet is the Cisco.
Anyways, thanks for your ideas!
