Has anyone tried using a Naim power line on Naim Uniti Core to better SQ

Posted by: musicfan51 on 18 January 2018

Has anyone tried a Naim Powerline on Uniti Core to better the sound quality ? !  I have about 1250cds ripped To Uniti Core and I play them through Naim NDS/555DR. Just curious if anyone has tried it and if they noticed any difference in SQ.

I tried a Powerline on my Uniti Core and preferred the original power cable (tested with NDS + one/two 555PS DR).

The UnitiCore comes out of the box with a Powerline Lite, which costs about £100 if you buy it separately.

Indeed much better to go on opinions on the forum rather than try it yourself. At last the tide seems to be turning against the brigade who think they can simply try something themselves and form an untutored opinion about it without any consideration to the font of knowledge here on the forum.

It may make a difference , and part of me wants to try it, I found Chord Ethernet Cable surprisely  made a difference in SQ and some said it would not ! But it will cost me something like $950 plus tax and just not sure I want to do that .  Might be better off saving up more money for Chord Sarum T power cord for my Preamp ! Chances are it would make a bigger difference. But I wanted to hear from fellow Naim owners if anyone had tried it and had heard a difference !

I wonder if results would be different in USA over UK or European markets? Different electrical grid!

I am in Canada, and I don’t think I even got a powerline lite with my Core...it looks exactly the same as the standard cable you get with most Naim electronics.Either way,I did not notice a difference with the powerline.I do however, use a Nordost Qb8 powerstrip, with a Nordost Heimdall 2 Power cable between it and the wall. There are 8 sockets available in the strip,my powerlines and standard cables all plug into the Nordost.

I’m not sure mine came with one either! What identifies it as such ?

Maybe North American Uniti Core units do not come with Naim Powerline lite cords.

We don’t get the powerline lite in the box with these units in Canada

Canada and USA both get their Naim products from the same importer. Likely I do not have a powerline lite either.

I believe if you read the specifications of the products they state that the Powerline is for UK only.

Posted on: 19 January 2018 by Gazza

The only difference is the modified UK plug fir the power line lite, hence only for the UK

Indeed, to my knowledge the 'Lite' version of the Powerline is strictly a UK iteration. North American (NA) buyers would get a standard tibia in the box. AVOptions offers an upgraded version of the Tibia for NA users that includes the Wattgate plug, heavier 12-gage wires, along with cryo'd treatment for $130. A VMF alternative to the $1K Powerline, or for that matter to the original Tibia? I haven't tried one.

I had a spare powerline so tried it on my Core, it’s still there but I’m using SPdif into a Rega DAC  both on the same Fraim shelf. I thought it was a nice improvement, sounded horrible on the DAC, full or light.

Has anyone tried a Power-Line on their kettle?

I believe it's especially good for expresso coffee. It gives you that inky blackness......

Yes the tea was warmer with better flavour and the taste seemed to linger in the mouth for longer, individual notes of the brew coming to the fore.

My comment on the Nova was serious mind you.

I do actually have a Power-Line for my 272.

Unfortunately my coffee machine has a captive lead so I can't try it on that!
