How do you leave your system when not in use?

Posted by: Popeye on 24 January 2018

I know you don't turn the classic range off but do you have a method how you leave your equipment when not in use?

i.e I leave my Supernait2 on mute and my NDX on a input I don't use as often.

I don't know if this is a good thing or not.

Many thanks

Out of use.

From day to day, whether playing music next day or not for a few days: power amp off, Dave on standby, Mac Mini on (uses negligible power.

When away, e.g on holiday, all off and unplugged from mains sockets.

Always left on, system muted when not playing only switched off when away from home for more than three or four days.

My QB is on standby as is the Lite but I still can’t bring myself to leave my full system on drawing power 24 hours a day. I know many will disapprove - I can afford the electricity but loath wasting it. Perhaps one day Naim will build amps that warm up faster. Some will probably say I’m shortening component life but I’ve not encountered problems all these years. Oh and I’m perfectly happy with the sound.....ooooopps I can hear further screams of disapproval.

I turn it all off if I go away for more than one night.   The NDX keeps churning away when its not playing anything,  I minimise whatever by setting the internet to go off after 4 hours.     I leave Supernait on Mute & usually on the Tuner button (NAT-05) ready for the morning.     NAS is set to hibernate after 10 mins inactivity.

I usually leave my Classic range on an unused input and turn the volume knob right down. My SuperUniti I just "leave".

If I'm going away for more than a week, I usually power everything down, otherwise, it's always ready to go.

My system is playing one thing or another 24/7 at listening volume or very low volume. When out at work it's at low volume that would not cause any issue to neighbors. At night when in bed it's on but even lower volume. When not sitting listening it's normally radio playing.I do switch off when away from home for extended periods.

Mine stays powered on 247. Used for music and TV so gets a lot of use. At the moment it’s playinf radio paradise 247 as I run in the new amps and snaxo.

Switched on.

On all the time.

Unless chance of lightning and it goes off until that goes - or I'm away for more than a day.

No special muting or anything.

I prefer the sound greatly when it has been warmed-up for a few days so it has to be this way for me.

I hang it from the ceiling so the cats can't get at it. It's not that I don't trust them, it's just that they always leave a Taylor Swift CD in the tray.

I leave the stereo system on all the time without muting.

If lightening is in the forecast then everything is shutdown and unplugged.

If leaving on vacation I also shut it down the system and everything is unplugged. That goes for my TV, network gear and computers as well.

I leave it on all the time, but when not listening choose the av channel of which the av receiver is off while not watching tv....

I leave it on all the time, except LP12 related (HC hums and I don't play vinyl records so often), but when out of home for several days everything off and unplugged.

On all the time except when I leave for a week or more. My FM tuner have been on 24/7 for 31 years and still sounding great.!

When I am not listening, I leave it the same way it is when listening, that is, it is on 24/7.  This includes during the time I am away and during any thunderstorms.  When I want (need) to listen, the system needs to be on and ready and I would never repeatedly go through the trouble of turning everything off and on etc.
