This is a Minimserver function,  I had the same when I used Minimserver.    The artist list shows as a folder & its not until you get to an individual album that the art appears.     Last time I looked it was still not possible & confirmed as such by Simon at Minimserver.     Maybe a current Minimserver expert user can advise

I'm not sure I fully understand the question.  Is it that you would like the album art to appear in the list of artists?  If so, how would one deal with, say, a performer who performs on twenty different albums -- which album cover would be chosen?  Or would you like a picture of the artist themselves?  If the latter, I'm not sure your difficulty is just a Minimserver issue, rather it may also depend on the file format you use and its tagging system.  I use FLAC (and transcode to WAV on the fly).  FLAC uses the same system as Vorbis Comments for tagging and my understanding (probably wrong) is that this means all fields have to be a Unicode string (essentially text) with the one exception of album art, so the ARTIST field, for example, cannot contain a picture.  I will leave it to others to comment on metadata for other formats and whether artist pictures can be stored and then displayed with the Naim app.  If you do find a way of displaying the artist picture with another file format and UPnP player do please let us know.

Roger, Mike has explained it above. You simply cannot do it with Minimserver. But with Asset, for example, you can, using the show upstream artwork function. So if you go into Artist / Album, you will see one of their albums, like this...

For what it's worth crappy old Twonky gives me artwork for Artist/Album - you'd think it might be as simple as putting your chosen artwork in the Artist name folder if your music is well organised but I suspect that's a big simplification which would not cover most libraries.

I have raised this point in the MinimForum...(actually for genres rather than artists but the principle is the same). Probably the main reason I use Asset more than Minim...

Thanks Nigel.  I did know about the upstream artwork function but one of the points I was trying (poorly) to make is that it can only display an Album cover (or I think more accurately the artwork from the first discovered track) rather than a picture of the artist (as I believe Roon can do).  This clearly works well for Asset's Artist/Album display but Minimserver doesn't offer this and I simply wondered how helpful it would be for Artist alone if, for example, one has ripped 30 CDs of the LSO playing different pieces.

My understanding of Minimserver is that it is based on the idea of browsing by gradually refining a selection using tags.  If just one album is left in the selection, the artwork is shown, but at any time you can click on the "[n] albums" at the top of the container and all albums remaining in the selection are shown with their artwork.  Indeed, the difference in how artwork is displayed is not so much a distinction between how Albums and Artists are handled as between the [n] albums which appears at the top of the container and selection tags, of which Artist can be one.  I think the Minimserver philosophy is to regard these tags not as a list but rather a way of refining your selection.  Interestingly, if you have set Album as a selection tag and click it, artwork is not displayed.  All selection tags are treated equally and Artist does not get special treatment.  I think this is quite logical given how Minimserver works, but I entirely understand it might not suit the way many other users may like to use it.  And apologies to the OP for the digression.

Plex and jRiver will broadcast artists as the actual artist with some info on them as well (ala Roon only not so stupid expensive)

I assume that naim devices could pick this up assuming it was being broadcast via upnp

Asset sounds just as good. It rescans virtually instantly as well - copy an album to the nas and it’s playable within seconds.
