Problems with airplay and new iPhone X

Posted by: Kittytwister on 27 January 2018

I have had a Muso in sitting room and in the kitchen also the Qb. Never had an issue streaming using airplay from iPhone or iPad. Just swipe from bottom. The new iPhone X has the airplay hidden away and it’s a chore to get it. Once there I see my devices including the two naim products. I can stream to, the ab receives signal but for some unknown reason I am able to connect to the main Muso. It’s there and when I connect it requests a password, I never had a password inserted. Any tips or assistance would be grateful. Just cannot understand as the radio section is working fine.

I've yet to unbox my iPhone 10, but annoyingly Airplay to certain devices has required a password for some months.

If the Muso has a web page for access you may be able to enter a password there as I recently noted for my Nova, but passwords I think are only really needed for video not audio - may be wrong.

Safari on Mac used to allow you to easily browse for network devices using Bonjour then the pillocks removed the functionality in recent Safari releases.

So for example with my Nova in a browser I see a configuration page with this URL:

http://uniti-nova-SERIALNUMBER.local./naim/index.fcgi

...may be similar for a Muso but that page allows setting an Airplay password.

I’m a big AirPlay fan (sad I know) and used it regularly between my iPhone/ iPad/ Mac Mini and my Muso. In 2016 I upgraded to a Uniti 2, without realising it did not incorporate AirPlay. I consequently upgraded to a  Uniti Star, which rectified this shortcoming and I have been immensely  pleased with its performance.

Incidentally, I am currently running AirPlay 2 between my iPhone and 2 Apple TVs all running iOS/TvOS 11.3 beta software and can say that (following a few early issues) it works really well. I’m therefore looking forward to a future Uniti update to incorporate this feature.

In addition, I am able to AirPlay direct to my Sky Q box and 2 Mini boxes (obviously not AirPlay 2 - yet). Without exception, they all connect without the need to enter a website URL and/ or Password, so I’m a little perplexed by the above posts!

it also appears that I dodged a bullet by NOT upgrading to the iPhone X (still rocking a 7 PLUS)
