HDX discontinued

Perfectly understandable, but I also feel sorry since the HDX provided me the first steps into streaming audio ...

But is the ssd version continuing?the Naim product history does not confirm the HDX-ssd as discontinued. Probably not long though...

it's not on the produsct page anymore ... HDD as well as SSD ... also the Dutch distributor does't have both models in their price list anymore ...

Over and out on another product then........makes you wonder if they are going to leave the the market wide open for Melco. Although I have not compared my Core to a Melco, my dealer feels it’s a step up from Core.

It was about to come, isn't it ... maybe it would be a good thing to leave this to companies like Melco or separate NAS's and put more focus on the streamers ...

It disappeared from the U.K. price list some weeks ago - but remained on the website.

Its had a good run of nearly ten years - so clearly there was demand.

I’m somewhat optimistic we will see HDX2 at Bristol.

From the outset Naim described the UnitiCore as a "Reference hard disc server" which strikes me as meaning that they think it is good to go with Reference level products. So I really doubt that there will ever be an HDX2.

Maybe there could be a UnitiCore plus though, with more Uniti Star technology and functionality recycled.

The HDX was a nice product as a ‘bridge’ into streaming from the CDS3 for me.

Well, the HDX does pretty much everything I need in it's current state.  So as long as spare parts (optical drives, hard disk drives) remain available from NAIM, I'll keep it for another 10 years.  (The optical drives are apparently flashed by NAIM and the HDDs must have the OS loaded onto them by NAIM, so generic replacement drives can not be used    ).

Yep, been really , really happy as wth my HDX and sad to see it go. But tech. does move on & I'll be getting a UnitiCore sooner rather than later as well as either a second hand NDS or NDX2 when it arrives.

Had the HDD go 3 years ago (replaced under warranty) and switch mode PS (3 months ago outside or warranty , but not a big cost) go on me. Just praying I am good until I upgrgrade before either go again...........

I always wonder how expensive ere these repair and replacement costs in the long term. Do they remain marginal or should they really be considered in the purchasing decision making process in particular for second hand boxes?

Good question.  However, with gear like NAIM, you are paying for longevity both in the initial purchase price and in future repairs.  It costs a lot to keep an inventory of parts with a view to 10-20 years of service life.  At least, it used to.............  With audio rapidly becoming computer-based, who knows how soon "built in obsolescence" will prevail and spare parts/repairs be a thing of the past?
