Bristol Show - First Time
Posted by: Mort2k on 01 February 2018
Hello
I was wondering if anyone who has been to the show before has any advice on getting the most out of a single day visit / what to do to ensure not missing things that are important or a priority ?
Thanks in advance
Rob
Oops silly me, of course 2 will be perfect.
No announcement, but not much of a secret the dealers no what is next on the list to be launched, my dealer has discussed this me vs my next step..........but it’s a big one!
And then of course you’ll need another level of Fraim to accommodate those extra boxes.
Already got them and waiting, don,t tell the wife!
Thanks everyone for the advice and input, will be down Saturday.

No doubt you will soon be upgrading from your humble 272?
Therein lies the problem. Have 555ps. Get NDS or ND555. Need preamp. Don’t want six boxes. What to do. Nothing. Need 372 or 572. Naim won’t go there. Hmm.
Nigel, I guess Naim believe for top performance the components need decoupling hence the separate cases, and technically and through experience I also subscribe to this approach ... other manufacturers such as Linn seem to focus more on mass miniaturisation in a single box, but to my ears it just doesn’t sound quite as nice.. albeit it’s certainly not bad....
Now I’m waiting for Naim to come up with the digital hub, that is streamer/hard disk/internet streamer/chrome cast front end which connects over the home network to a stripped down but absolutely top quality Ethernet enabled DAC... that way you get all the features and convenience of digital formats with no sacrifice in quality at all... Tidal would sound like local streaming for example and there would be no difference between FLAC and WAV replay ... and your Ethernet DAC would be hugely future proofed... Thiswould provides the decoupling approach to the digital world..... and also potentially allow current network streamers to be future proofed as well, by the Naim digital hub being their media server front end...
naim will present the nd555 in the Seattle show on the 8 march. Music Matters show. Naim statement room. Very curious to see that, and the real price too. I don’t know if it is the successor of the nds or the statement streamer, but very probably the later.
It sounds like a Reference series streamer.
NDS was Classic series, so should be very interesting.
It would have an 'S' prefix if it were Statement level.
DB.
I wonder how Naim managed to improve on the already excellent NDS/555?
I suppose it will have the new networking boards and newer software.
I wonder about the Burr Brown 1704 DAC and DSP processing / Digital filters.
I'm wondering if its a typo. Naim Statement / Naim ND555 Streamer. Could it be a Statement with NDS/555 PS DR?
Chord have announced their products before release.... Not sure why Naim keep it such a secret?
Reference series casework and the new screen is what I have been told. Looks like the next generation of streamers is around the corner.
I wonder what will happen to used prices of the current models, I could be tempted with a used NDS in a year or so if the prices level to CDS3 levels which is quite likely.
One would hope that Naim could better their current DAC installation in NDS and nDAC. So maybe the ND 555 would trickle down into an NDS/X and a new DAC.
Indeed, it will also be interesting if the forthcomg ND555 uses the newer Uniti streaming architecture... at least in part. It was rumoured to me one of the main aims of the ND555 was to provide a Naim source that improved on the CD555 in terms of musicality...
I am not so sure this necessarily signals new or replacement streamers at all.... just completing the portfolio at the reference level. I also hear there is a return focus on reduced features in favour of max SQ performance... it appears currently one can’t have both... especially in one box.

...
But ... a source does not need to be a pure streamer, does it? It could have the newer Uniti streaming section for conventional LAN and internet streamining services, CA, Airplay and so. But it could also have some storage for reference playback of local data!
Most people tend to listen to only a portion of their music collections on a regular basis. Thus, a local storage coupled with an intelligent caching scheme could make a lot of sense. It would dramatically reduce bandwidth on the NAS-DAC sub network and allow to selectively shut down or put asleep certain services at replay time. This, in turn, could help further reducing cross talk noise.
Word from the Naim guys who visit my dealer is it sounds very special....they would say that of course.. Should be interesting

It's in a list of items making their "public debut" which implies a new product.

it is written : new products at this show: nd555 streamer, linn urika 2....
ND555 is coming to many ‘confirmed’ reports from dealers and shows. Just hope it’s not a long time before it’s available
Urika 2 into ND555 with spdif ????

8 march at the music matters show.....so perhaps for this summer (june/july ?)
Then this is great news as I'll be close to Seattle in March.
i hope it is not a fake. The music matters, eventbrite, site seems serious, they are announcing also : linn urika 2, new linn katalyst architecture dac, trinnov multi channel preamp, sonus faber lillium speakers.... and naim statement / nd555 streamer.
Regardless I just got a ticket to the event. I'm looking forward to hearing whatever they show.
