Another stacking enqiry
Posted by: JohnL on 02 February 2018
Hi all,
About to do a system re build. Ive got 2 quadraspire 5 level bamboo racks and a wall shelf for the LP12. My system is 52, 52 PS, 2x250's, SNAXO 242, Hi Cap, CDS3, XPS2, NDX, Headline, NAPSC and Lingo 3. Obviously bearing in mind Burndy lengths, what stacking order would you use ?
Many thanks in advance
John
Muscle down the right. Thinkers down the left.
Match the thinkers to the muscles that they use side-to-side.
The source thinker that is most used on top, then descending order.
Let's have a butchers at your cable dressing when you've done the rebuild. In that other thread, natch.
Put the two 250 amps away from the other boxes and don't sandwich other boxes in-between them, so that usually means they go at the bottom of a rack. The PS for the 52 and SNAXO are also rather more sensitive than you would like to placement and don't like being right above a 250, so either a gap or try them higher up the stack.
The other 'brain' stack will either work best with the 52 to or CDS3, so either try both or presume the 52. Higher shelves tend to give better isolation to more sensitive boxes, like sources and high-gain stage boxes, so that should enter your deliberations on what goes where.
Then final choice for best cable-dressing - if you keep all the runs, where possible, naturally off the floor then it will give it a big boost.

I see this poster started a new thread, and perhaps that is the best way to do it... but since there are not a lot of posts yet on this thread I thought I would enter this here since it didn't get any response on another thread that was much longer.
Here is my situation, also with "stacking" so I thought it might be ok to join this thread instead of starting another one... apologies if this is bad form or etiquette.
I have only one stack and yet I have one shelf free, thus space. I have been keeping the free shelf between the power boxes/supplies and the other pieces... any thoughts on swapping the order of the boxes or where the free shelf goes? Right now it looks like this... LP12 sits on a wall mounted shelf above the rest.

Thanks for any and all feedback.
Gary
Try the free shelf between the 250 and the Supercap, so move it down a level.
That puts the big busy 250 Transformer farther away from the Supercap.

Thanks Darke Bear. I will give that a try. A friend is coming over this weekend to lend me his recently serviced olive Supercap in place of my not recently serviced one. When changing out the gear I will move the free space and give a listen.
Thanks for the advice guys. After a long day yesterday, I ended up with:
right stack (from the bottom) Lingo 3, XPS 2, 250, 250, NDX
left stack (from the bottom) 52 PS, Hi Cap/NAPSC, Snaxo/Headline, 52, CDS 3
Mike, if I can work out how to post photos on here, I will show my feeble attempt at cable dressing (mighty crowded back there).
thanks
John
