ND555

So the Classic look continues
Thank you to Trevor for making things clear
Ian
Neat. Looking forward to seeing the internals.
Trevor said it is a 500 series streamer. So not statement range not classic range as the nds....?
Fair play to Trevor for coming out and answering the rumours.
I may have to take a trip to Bristol soon
I'm ready to take early delivery Trevor.
Looks just like an HDX without the disc drawer! No chance of having my NDS updated then?
After the new Uniti launch experience I can understand Naim's hesitance over new product launches and I think after the unfortunate leak the other side of the pond Trevor's response is spot on.
Shame we are not going to hear the ND 555 at Bristol, if I understand correctly. But I am glad the Classic/500 series look will continue going forward.
As handsome as the other 500/Classic boxes and with a nice green light.
Trevor.
Well done that man.
Second the green light! Now where did I leave that green marker pen for my Core?
With the advent of the ND555, I have just realised that my monkfish of a system has just turned into a mullet!

I wonder if Naim will build a Core in a “classic” case. I think they’re going to have to...

I doubt it. The Core doesn't look out of place with a Classic system, with a similar chunky brick-like look.
i wonder if it is a sort of nds2 or real 500 series streamer. The nds will remain normally because it is a classic serie level and the nd555 a 500 serie level(?). f i understood well.
Thanks Trevor.
And the crowd goes wild.
I was expecting more of a statement size and design
Not been to a HiFi show in 15 yrs but may even venture to Bristol to see this beast.

Why is it any different than when there was CD555 and CDS? The NDS was the last of the stand alone streamers to be launched (iirc) so wouldn’t make sense it was the first to be replaced, a “higher” ND555 which then provides “trickle down” to the Mk2 versions of NDX, ND5XS and then NDS makes logical sense,
So when are Mint pre-loved examples going to be available ?

It’s the equivalent of the CD555, not a replacement for the NDS. It even has the brushed 500 series case. It would seem logical that replacements for the NDS and NDX, using the new streaming platform, will then follow.
The original 555PS was designed for the CD555. Later came the NDS and it was built on the same foundation naim already had (555PS).
I, somehow, couldn't find the NDS to be an interesting piece of gear, it bored me from the moment I pushed the start button and
I never understood the fascination with it (Martin Colloms ranked it 300 points, where the CD555 is only 89).
The NDS does not sound any better than a naim CD player (CDS2/CDS3/CD555). Not even close to them IMHO.
The CDS2 for example is much more engaging and has more drive, rhythm, pace, weight of instruments, soundstage, focus -
which leads me to find an interest with the music.
The NDS is too polite, in a non-naim way, which leads me to listen for a little while and then lost interest.
Naim understood this, and here comes the new streamer, which I hope will fight the old CD players (finally).
Although I doubt - I was starting to think that there is something with the CD transport/laser mechanism that makes it so special sounding - so good.
BP.
So glad it will still match the other classic items we save up for and buy over a long period of time. The screen looks nice but not so sure about the buttons up the right hand side. Whatever, none of that is more important than how it sounds.
Good to see that the classic look continues!
Absolutely, Klout10! I love the look of the classic series way over the new Uniti series - however I can imagine that a younger generation (I'm sub 40) likes the Uniti for their small city appartments.
Question: is it going to be a touch screen?
The Unitis aren’t, so this won’t be either.
