So the Classic look continues

I may be misunderstanding Naims use, but to me LVDS (sorry got my acronym muddled) is i2s over medium distance. So between a streamer and a DAC for example.
Gazza - it's just a way of transferring digital data at high speed and due to the differential signalling it produces a very low radiated field. If Naim are using it for a proprietary digital output then it would allow them to separate data and clock signals.

Do you mean SHARC DACs? Afaik SHARC are DSP (processors) not DACs.
The words of the Naim guy at Bristol, not one of the regulars.
Thankyou for the explanation

It’s title is interesting - NaimForumImage-ND555-TLD-
I can’t help thinking if I gave one of my younger children pictures of a few pices of Naim kit and asked them to come up with cut and paste “new product” that they wouldn’t come up with something like this. The new Uniti range looks so different, this looks so 2004. As someone commented it’s like a HDX without the disc loader.
Hard to think this is the brave new world......

So, TW wasn't 'lying', then.
I’ll get my coat.......

FWIW, there's a page about LVDS at Wikipedia.
Well LVDS is a generic term... but in audio parlance it has become synonymous with i2s (usually via HDMI cabling).
When, really is the question.
Chag -
some pictures of the new nd555 and ndx2 on the « nds discontinued « topic. ndx2 looks nice and for the nd555 we don’t know yet, at 16h42 in Paris, what is the ps above the nd555....surely a 555dr, it looks like it.

The psu and analogue circuits - are super critical regarding noise - and their inference on the sound. When you play a really good 44.1 flac on the NDS it can sound staggering - depending on the production and original mastering - so huge sample rates are not the whole story. I would think the whole psu structure would need to change - you almost need a 2 box streamer one section for digital and one for analogue .... maybe thats the Statement Streamer to come!
Richieeroo,
it almost sounds you hope the ND555 will not sound better than the NDS - do you own one?
Pictures of the ND555 also on the new streamers thread https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...56#74356846424476956

I think the ND555 will sound better than the NDS , how much better is hard to say !
It will. I’m 100% sure Naim wouldn’t release it otherwise. It’s not in their genes to do something like that.

cd555 was better than cds3 in some areas, but some preferred the cds3. It will be perhaps the same with nd555 and nds.

Mmm... I'm not so sure. For instance, I was never convinced that the CDS2 (which I had) could hold a candle to the original CDS.
Hm, perhaps the best VFM upgrade would be to add a second preioved PS555 to an NDS.
DUPREE posted:Gavin L posted:If the cost is not barrier enough, I have to agree that the number of boxes might be the final barrier. If it was 3 boxes, then it really becomes hard to also run a CD555, which would really be a big shame, given the investment many might have in the humble CD. (Yes, I know they could all be transferred to FLAC or similar, but would be a shame).
If it is really that phenomenal I could get past the cost barrier, but not the box barrier. There is zero chance I would buy a 3 box streamer, absolutely zero. It isn't like their other streamers are not quite good and that the Linn KDS isn't one of the best streamers out and only requires one box. I hope they rethink their strategy, even for those that can afford the best, the aesthetics and practicality are a absolutely huge consideration. It has to be able to fit comfortably in your listening room or it won't fly.
Agreed whole heartedly with the box count. I am so over that. Thankfully my 552/500 setup is limited to 4 boxes. The idea of a three or four box count source is not at all appealing to me. A similar reason that I moved to a Urika from SuperLine/SuperCap. Two external boxes to - none.
After my CD555 I gave up waiting for Naim and moved onto the Linn KDS/1 (I skipped the initial version) - as many others here have done.
All one single box - and the ability to easily upgrade from KDS/1>2>3>4 as technical innovation and improvements have come along these past 10 years. Each and every upgrade logistically and economically feasible. Unfortunately black boxes are not upgradeable - and I am not talking via power supplies - but rather technical innovations as and when they happen. One needs to bin the black box and start over again. I am tired of doing that and am happy with the ability to keep my DS and LP12 current in a very easy and hassle free manner.
With that said no doubt the new range will sound great and I am looking to forward to hearing what they have come up with. I am sure it will once again take the position of being class leading and innovating.
