So the Classic look continues

Won’t happen - broken gesr just doesn’t sell.
there will be more second hand nds when the nd555 will be on the market. So perhaps a little drop in price.....
But the effect of the ND555 will be to make the NDS sound broken: surely no-one will then want to buy one?
nd555 is a 500 serie streamer, not an nds2. There will be nd5x, ndx, nds, and the nd555 streamers.. so not broken nds sound. nds will remain the best classic serie streamer.
the leak has kill the sales of the nds for sure ,and lost naim profit, so the new model may be a Christmas present

I think you missed the humour of my point!
So often when people hear something new and better they say it makes the old (formerly fantastic sounding) unit “sound broken. Of course it doesn’t sound broken, but I was picking on that terminology as if literal.

How many NDSs would they have sold in the short time between now and the Bristol show where it is said it’ll be unveiled? I doubt it is exactly a high volume seller, so not much profit lost, if any.

A lot of people will not be able afford a ND555, and a half price used NDS will sound mighty fine !
Nah, they’ll all sound broken - wait till you hear people say it when they hear the ND555...
And your assumption is everyone is going to be able to hear an ND555 streamer! Ha ha ha ha
Indeed IB. And the slightly earlier announcement may lead the few who were getting ready to slid the card with the competition, to stop and wait.
Chag -
I would be interested if this was a 555 level Dac and did usb.
Im going to stay away from streaming tech. The nds is fine, and the newer units will be as obsolete as the NDS in a few years.
Much rather have a solid USB/spdif Dac and let streaming be done by the likes of Google, amazon etc.
Are we able to order one now before the price increase?

LMAO Drewy! That is so funny
As a new member of the forum - hello Everyone!
Given that we can only speculate on functionality and sonic aspect of the new ND555 I will refrain from commenting on those as I could not add much to what has already been said.
We have, however, been shown an image, likely of the final product. I must say that I would have preferred a contemporary design in line with the Statement and Unity lines. Naim has chosen, for better or worse, a new direction, and applied it to both their entry and top level products, thus seemingly making that design part of the overall brand image. It would have looked better to these eyes, and made more sense to this mind, if they stayed on point.
Unless there is another source product to go with the Statement amplifiers, this is a surprising choice from Naim.
Best, JN

The new streaming platform is very different to the old one - there will be no backwards compatibility.
who ever bought the NDS back in the day most probably bought a 555PS as well...
So now selling the NDS + using the existing 555 new ND555 will be almost same as investing to a new NDS back in the days....
So they might sell as well as NDS

Hi JN, and welcome to the forum. I do like the look of the new Uniti system kit, but the new ND555 will almost certainly be used in combination with the existing 500 series componentry, and as these are still available new it makes sense to make the newcomer match them cosmetically.

I’d be of a total opposite opinion, the newcomer should stand out, announce itself, but still clearly be Naim.
As I said above I will be really surprised if that photo is of the product that wIll be unveiled in Bristol.
Won’t be too long until I’m recognised as the fool / sage who got it wrong / right.

From naims point of view...
Do you make a 500 series source product that matches the hundreds of 500 series amps that have been sold
Or one that matches the three statement amps that sold to a footballer and two investment bankers??
It's a no brainer from naims point of view...
Ps
Yes I know more than 3 have found homes
However, a Statement owner might not be attracted by having to have a Fraim on which to put a fairly nondescript semi-industrial looking black box. But there could easily be a Statement version and a 500 series version, even if the internals are identical if that is the very best Naim can do: a Statement model seems to me to need to be in a case that also makes a statement rather than something traditional, which is where my original observations came from. I’m guessing the extra cost of the design would be happily borne by the limited number of Statement system owners.
I think that the new ND555 streamer - will be feature rich roon, more resolution formats etc , but I still think it is going to have a tough time improving meaningfully on the NDS sonically. The psu and analogue circuits - are super critical regarding noise - and their inference on the sound. When you play a really good 44.1 flac on the NDS it can sound staggering - depending on the production and original mastering - so huge sample rates are not the whole story. I would think the whole psu structure would need to change - you almost need a 2 box streamer one section for digital and one for analogue .... maybe thats the Statement Streamer to come!

yes, i didn’t know exactly the meaning of broken.....and i thought also that you were talking about the nd555 as nds2 , nds replacement.
I think there is not going to be any statement streamer until it is capable of being just that "a statement" of the best digital audio in the world.
That's another game - one being played very well by Chord and DCS.
Let’s be honest here - only a vinyl source is good enough for Statement

From my brief contact with a chord DAC, I’d say their game is to make poor/low quality digital SOUND good.
I don’t think Naim will be playing that game.

Too True.

It may have been the other way around, knowing they had a 500 series ND close to launch may have been the trigger for Naim to discontinue the CD555 if it had a very low sales rate, as that wouldn't leave a source hole in their range for long. (Not disagreeing with the general thrust of your point which I agree with.)
You have to believe that Naim have Chord and dcs products in their lab to use as comparisons. So I personally don,t think we will be disappointed.
I have a statement, and look forward with great anticipation the nd555. It will fit perfectly in the fraim next to the pre amp. I dont believe a statement level streamer is yet manufactured or may not be even possible with current digital products.
Also I have listened to Chord and DCS and would not call either statement level streaming products.
