Any known Naim app issues? (Mu-So & Star)
Posted by: thekent on 07 February 2018
Forgive me if this has been asked elsewhere.
Just wondering if there is anyone else experiencing Naim app issues today?
My app is not recognising any "rooms" (iPhone app) but the iPad app does recognise the Uniti Star ....unfortunately Mu-So isn't being picked up at all :-/
Just use a multipart string and you can have an equivalent expletive in a variety of different languages!
I have to be honest, Im too blonde to understand some of the above comments
I am using iOS. I think that over recent months the app has been much more stable.
I posted as I knew that the retailer I purchased from also experienced problems the same day.
I agree that we need a refresh .. I would just call it "FW"
I am hoping they develop the app ... SOON ... to enable 'multiroom' for the Star as I would like to stream to my Mu-So.
As a side note. The retailer also mentioned that there is a plan to include UPnP on the screen of the Star and I think other models as it is currently only accessible via the app ... fingers crossed that is also soon
Thekent I think Multiroom is soon...
As often happens this thread has got a life of its own and who knows where it will end up.
But to repeat what I think I said before, if you can't find your rooms now and again, all you need to understand (!) is swipe the app off, restart it, and all will be sweetness and light until next time. Takes a couple of seconds to do. You don't need to mess around with the network and restart streamers, routers and so on unless the app frequently loses sight of things or the swiping it off and restarting it trick doesn't work.
best
David
Thanks David
Yeah I tried several times that day. I even deleted the app a couple of times and re-added it.
Then without any effort the rooms later came back. Very odd.
Seems to be playing up just now but will try again later.

Could there be something external interfering with your WiFi?
Maybe even try clearing out all spurious WiFi networks from your tablet. Check you’ve not attached to the wrong network in error.
There isn't anything interfering with my Wi-Fi and Im not connected to any other networks.
Hive app works perfectly.... and I use that a lot :-)

You still haven’t told us about the way your network is configured and which component assigns the IP addresses....
Funny reading these comments. The tech Naim fan boys never appear to have problems with the App. Interesting I have just returned from ISE at the RAI in Amsterdam. The two of the Naim streamers were on the Focal stand, the Nova was powered up but the Atom not bizarrely. I spoke to two people who were owners of the aforementioned, a guy from DE described the app as "trash" an a fellow brit who was really slating due to the issues that he's been having. Like I've said before everyone blames the Network, in most cases that is BS, the App is flaky and the units still needs work on firmware. Please, Ladies & Gent's park the network advice, users of off the shelf audio kit shouldn't need to be fannying around with QoS, port opening and data-packet monitoring, it should just work 99% of the time.
These units are not cheap they've been out six months excessively delayed and it needs to be sorted.
This will get some retort I'm sure - but I don't care anymore.

Then stop posting this condescending prose.
Thanks for the advice Adam - perhaps get the context of your words correct before you post next time Pal.
Since you know enough about the app and networking to pontificate about what the app should be able to do, perhaps you could make some constructive suggestions to Naim to help them improve the app?
Huge - I have spent hours talking to Naim support in the last 6 months with no avail; spent half the value of the Atom on Cisco AP and Switch, so I'm certainly not going down that path again on here.
And what were your suggestions on how to improve the app?
Huge posted:And what were your suggestions on how to improve the app?
To make the code stable!

And just how do you suggest they do that?
Let's have some substance please, to support the otherwise empty rhetoric.

Surely what it should be able to do is work consistently on a piece of kit you’ve spent a few grand on
Huge - I genuinely have no idea what you are trying to achieve here - candidly, it is not my problem to spend excessive time as a user telling a vendor how to fix their issues.
When a company sells a product with clear advertised features - it need to do what it says, that's with any product. Then we have premium products with a high price tag - because they sound good, feature rich, lastest technology - but they need to work properly.
If your car broke down every other day, or didn't start three times a week, or the Infotainment failed on a regular basis, would you 'suggest' to them how to fix it?
I've had enough now - so either be constructive or leave it here.

On the other hand if you fit incorrectly sized tyres to your high performance sports car and crash it on a wet roundabout while following a Ford Fiesta that made it round OK, is that the fault of the manufacturer of the car, or the local authority, or the people who laid the road surface; according to your analogy it possibly couldn't be your fault!

Have you had too much to drink already?
Touche.

And that Mercky is EXACTLY the point mate, thank you for understanding my point!

And how many different environments are Naim supposed to be able to support simultaneously?
Good night Huge - and all the best.
Before we end this, which of the new Uniti Streamers do you have?
