Any 552 Owner ever regretted buying it and why?

The thread title says it all. Reason for regret could include extra costs, more OCD etc.

Just like to hear your experiences. I don’t have anything to offer.

Hello,

Did you own S600 ? I find  a certain lack of lustre with S400, not so with S600 and Sats. Did you find any negatives compared to Ovators or is it a  100% winning solution ?

Regards

Roberto

Ovator S600. You can't go wrong with Sopra 2/3 and 250DR/300DR. The Sopra is the better speaker for me (in my room with my sources of course...) I wouldn't go back;-)

nobody seem to have regretted the 552, but i wonder if someone preferred another preamp than the 552 with nap 300 or 500?

Hi FR

Why not start another thread. I don’t mind things that make the 552 sound good. So if someone says a particular speaker does or does not work ok.

i just open a new topic.  But the title of this topic is » does any owner of a 552 regretted it ».

So i asked to myself :  if someone one day hear something better than the 552 with the same amp, he can eventually regret to have bought the 552...

It's really quite simple.

nobody ever regrets buying a 552.

If someone finds they need the cash, the 552 always finds a willing buyer.

I went from a 52 to a 552 with no regrets whatsoever. That's quite a time ago. Then I went from 2 x 135,s to a dealer demo 500, unmarked, then DRd. That's my set up and that's it. Today's list price list is one I look at "sometimes".

Re Speakers: owned 400 and 600, Kudos 20 beat them both but Titan 808 of course in another league, to these ears of course.

Also have owned Credo, Allae, n-Sats/n-Sub, SBL, SL2...

It depends upon one's perceived expectations. When I first powered up my 552 I was relieved that it satisfied my innate desire to know whether there was more to be appreciated but as the months progressed, I subsequently questioned whether it was 'all' that I could expect. I wondered whether it was supposed to epitomise the day dreams that occupied my desire for closure, because in the deep recesses of my mind I sensed a feeling of dissatisfaction. For a period of what would seem an eternity, I oscillated between a state of uncertainty. Did I regret spending a small fortune on components that occupied more space than a single box? No, I didn't. It has given more pleasure than I truly deserve. It doesn't have moods. It is the same everytime. It vocalises the embodiment of what is really there. It sometime amazes me and I can't stop smiling. I want others to appreciate what I am hearing and they duly comply. They say that life should be made up of experiences: the 552 could bring you one step closer to audio nirvana. It could also shatter all of your dreams. Try to have no expectations and become receptive. It could change your life. It changed mine: for better or worse? It's something I could live with. Perhaps it's a marriage made in heaven? What's the purpose of life? To enjoy every minute? I'm happy to appreciate what I have. I've stopped comparing. Let the music speak for itself!

The 252 is beginning to come to life. Different presentation from the 282. I had a few touching cable issues despite all the effort to put pipe insulation at those points.

My twin racks are in a corner making rear access difficult. Not helped also by being HiFi Racks Akorner units so the thinner cables droop onto the shelf unless I use pipe insulation. But it’s contact between SL and Burndies that is the biggest issue, both from sources and to the 300DR, the later being a bit on the short side if you want good PS spacing. Makes you want to pull your hair out! But beginning to understand what it is like to be a CrossRail designer!

Currently listening to Pink Floyd’s The Division Bell, which I bought on Thursday. Only need the volume at 8 o’clock. Much improved from this morning.
