speakers to purchase in the next year.

I have a complete naim system so I know I have the power to drive these speakers.  I havent heard them yet but maybe some of you have; they are the Spendor D7 versus the Focal Kanta 2.  Any input would be appreciated.

Robert, the choice of speakers is a very personal thing I would suggest you keep an open mind and spend time with  dealer demonstrations also a home demo is must.

I did end up purchasing a pair of Spendor D7s nearly two years ago but to be fair they weren't really on my radar as I my original thought was to buy a pair of PMC speakers this after reading so many recommendations but they weren't to my liking. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the Spendor's sounded, just use your own ears and take plenty of time remember that's what dealers are for.

As I said it is a very personal choice just enjoy your journey.

+1 Speakers appear to be a particularly personal choice -- and advice is even more difficult when system details aren't provided...

As has been said keep your options open, home dem is an absolute must.

Regarding the speakers you refer to I have heard good things about both. But personally not heard either.

Enjoy the process

I think anybody's opinion on the subject would be, in all honesty, meaningless, it's your room and ears that matter.

I have heard both speakers, my dealer sells Focals, has the Kanta 2 speakers on display, he even has a YouTube video of them, the Spendors I have heard numerous times in different settings, I think they are some of the finest speakers I have heard at any price, I know which I prefer, but, it's your ears that matter.

Against the kanta you should try the spendor d9.

If I'm not mistaken I believe the Spendors were just reviewed in the current HiFi Critic issue.

Look forward to Dynaudio releasing New Confidence, and/or New Evidence, in May at Munich HiEnd.

As stated above - speakers - personal choice, system/room fit, home demo a must. That said, I had a chance to hear the Spendor D7 at a dealer this weekend. It was a busy room and not my musical taste being played. No idea of the amplification, etc. Nonetheless, if in the market for new speakers, I'd certainly put the D7 on my list for a home demo. Silky smooth mids and a wonderful tweeter presence - sparkling yet not harsh. I couldn't get a handle on the bass, but I'm going to go back during idle times at the dealer to give them a more thorough listen. The D7 seem a worthy consideration.

Hi Robbert,

Please let us know what system you are using. I recently purchased the Focal Kanta 2 and they are very good. The Kanta's completely disappear and their level of detail is second to none with the beryllium tweeter. That tweeter also has some slight sharpness that makes me like them over other speakers. Imaging an depth are at a very high level too. I compared the Kanta's against Sonus Faber Olympica III, Kef Reference and Q-Acoustics 500. My system is Supernait2/NDX and HiCapDr.

The Kanta's are a relative easy load, yet I feel that a more powerful amp just provides the authority they require.

Me too, hoping to get a good deal on the current C1s afterwards!
