NAC282 problem.
Posted by: Mike1951 on 22 February 2018
Is there any reason why, apart from an internal fault, I cannot get output from my ND5XS when the SNAIC is connected to the CD din input in my 282?
All the other inputs work.
I have checked for "input phono mapping".
Are you using a din or a snaic?
Is the ND5XS set to output via din?
Sorry, I thought "Snaic" was just the name of the cable.
I am using a NAIM cable connecting din-to-din...
Not entirely sure you are being helpful.
I've checked... "SNAIC" is the name of the cable, pictured in the "products" section of the NAIM WEBSITE with din plugs, so your first question makes no sense.
Also - I already said that all the other inputs work.
Mike, I think you've misunderstood Finkfan's suggestion.
Go into the settings menu for your ND5XS and under Analogue output you need to check that the Main Output is set to DIN.
Yes it is. If it wasn't, how would I be able to get output from using the other preamp inputs?
I may have misread your original post Mike. If the other din inputs on the 282 are all ok then the din Input needs to be selected on the 282. See the manual for this process
FYI din and snaic cables are different. Din carries audio only. Snaic also carries power
Mike, sorry I tried to help. Won't make that mistake again.
It will be because the phono input is selected for CD on the 282. Page E9 of the preamp manual tells you how to change it back to the Din input, which is what you need to do.
Aha. My bad.
So - I've done all the available variations. Checking the phono input programming, making sure the DIN output is set, switching between inputs, still no go.
Must be a fault, no?
A-HAAAA!
Clearly, I didn't follow the manual Phono-mapping instructions properly the first time around. (Embarrassed face emoji).
The perils of buying second-hand.
Thanks all and Halibut for ramming the point home.
Strangely, it sounds better through the CD input...
Mike, just to clarify the SNAIC matter.
A DIN interconnect has DIN plugs with 5 pins arranged in a 180° arc.
A SNAIC either has DIN plugs with 4 pins (SNAIC4) or has DIN plugs with 5 pins arranged in a wider 240° arc (SNAIC5) .
(There is also a special purpose SNAIC 4-5 with one SNAIC plug of each type!)
Ta.

Yes it is. “Sir” Roger Hunt was my boyhood hero as a Livrpool fan and I was lucky enough to meet both him and Gordon Banks through a works function. A real gentleman.
