Not surprising seeing all the new tech that is coming out of NAIM.. Would guess the NDX can't be far behind on the chopping block. Looking forward to seeing what replaces it.

hi Seakayer
I agree Tidal is great for exploring old and new music. I recently streamed around 10 Tom Waits albums and then explored those Miles Davis albums I don’t already own. Currently enjoying some Coleman Hawkins, John Scofield and Brad Meldhau. Those I particularly enjoy I download to my phone from the Tidal website for playing in the car or with headphones. I will also buy and rip my favourites but Tidal CD quality is decent.

Umh, so what high-end are they going to use at the Bristol Show?
The ND555 posting states "We will show it at Sound and Vision – The Bristol Show this month, but at present we have no plans to demonstrate it.", i.e. it won't be playing, and therefore probably not available to purchase for another 12 months, with demonstrations at Bristol 2019.
So lately Naim have been using a NDS with twin 555DR PSUs - what is going to replace this setup?
Maybe they have made the web-sites changes a too little too soon, me thinks.
Let's apply the new 4.5.8 Beta firmware release to my NDS and see if any tickle down from any new technologies.
I think I have just entered a parallel universe of multiple, concurrent, intertwined threads. Certainly no whacky baccy in this household.
See the colours man!
There’s gonna be some bargain NDS on the market. If I didn’t already have one I’d be rubbing my hands together now.
What with intertwined threads and tickle down technology, am I going mad or is the rest of the world?

This is what happens when you are listening to music, the album stops, you put on a new album. The person who pays attention goes to the right thread (What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested?) and posts the next album.......
The ageing seakayaker just posts in the thread he happens to be reading at the moment.........
.....I'm happy I still have a sense of humor......
When did the 172 kick the bucket? Didn't notice that.
Good news for NDS owners is that the NDS still sounds superb. Good news for prospective NDS owners is likely after the launch of the ND555.
Paul once told me that Naim discontinued the CDS3 because they sold one in eight months. Might be a similar situation? Strange not to have an S level streamer though.
This looks interesting.
NDSX??? ha ha
Good to see the classic look is continued :-)
nigelb posted:That makes more sense. The ND555 with the suspended sub chassis a la NDS and a posh new NDX with the new architecture and screen like the ND555 and the NDS no more.
Product line rationalisation makes a lot of sense as long as no large (performance/price point) gaps are created.
I now hear full-blown laughter emanating from Salisbury and Bristol!
I swear I had no prior knowledge, just a lucky guess on my part.
Do I get a prize?

I think the price of secondhand NDSs has just gone up!
ND5XS-2 doesn't even get a display?

Well everyone moans it fails so need to be turned off, and it’s too far away to see properly, best just to use iPad.
Obviously the reason the NDS has been discontinued is because it sounds better than the ND555 so to avoid the embarrassment and impact on sales the NDS has been given early retirement.
Hmmm .. it explains why my dealer had NDS on clearance sale at the end of last year.

What is the purpose of a display on a network player? I would like to understand why the ND555 and the NDX-2 have a display rather than why the ND5XS-2 is lacking one. Perhaps they implement some additional functionalities that can be better used is the device has it's own display?

Don't worry - I'll buy it off you for scrap value if you like.

Erm, your post followed mine making the prediction, though you polished it a little with some detail. I claim the prize!
New NDX 2 on static display at the Bristol show this morning.Naim have done a fine job of incorporating the new screen into the Classic casing it looks stunning, should be available around about July price indicated of just over 4K. I thought it would be a bit more than that?
Best to order one before they put the prices up...
Looks nice.
Is there an ND555 box on display?
NDX 2 rear picture it has two WiFi aerials for better coverage but apparently no FM/DAB option.
